yes the magnet trick can be done. I remember seeing a tool being sold to do just this. I think i seen it at flatlanderracing.com but i cant find it anymore. But if yuou do drop a lifter you might be pulling more then the intakes. I still think its a great idea. Just be carefull.
Now about Hydraulic roller lifters, they dont always need replacement. Regardless of what other websites say or what you think you know. I have done cam swaps several times in the 3.8 engine and i didnt have to change lifters. And i didnt have any problems after the swap. And there are alot of other people doing the same swaps in the same style motors and dont replace lifters. So its not required to replace lifters, unless one of the lifters are bad or making noise, or just high mileage. So quit arguing about that.
