Other than the $600 balancer sold by Intense Racing http://www.intense-racing.com/ does anyone know of another one.

Yes you do have one.
The stock ones aren't recomended for use extended above 4500rpms on all the ones I can remeber seeing.
Maybe look into modifying a SBC or some other damper to work.
I will need one for my 3.4L, that going to suck finding and paying for one.

So what makes one non-universal? Pardon the TMI, but I read the summit catalog in the bathroom, and I see pricing from like $50 to $600, rated, unrated, etc.

you can bolt several different cheep ballencers on your car...

but unless your goal to for your car to not start then you need either the stock pully or the ATI.

Any reason why the newer 98+ balancer could not be used on a 95-97 as an upgrade?

i will have to look into this further. I am quite well versed in the 95-97 3.8 ballencers but have not had a 98+ off. It's possible that the shutter windows are different but like I said I would have to look deeper into it. If I find anything out I will let you know
