Good post, I have seen some lifters that are a far cry better than stock (but cant remember where they were). They were a moly coated set and were extremely light and strong, looked intriguing... the guy running them gained around 2rwhp over normal lifters, which isnt bad I'll look around!
I don't think when it comes to lifters you need (3800-II special lifters)... just some kind of size/length/ability. Hang on, going into deep search mode.2002 5-spd NBM Camaro

Stock valve lifter could be either of these 2 part #'s:
Just got off the phone with AMM and he said that '98 cars use 2 different style lifters. Im not sure this implies on post '98 or pre '98 but I know for sure '98 3.8's have these two different style lifters.

blue pushrod seat: 17122490
There is really no way to tell which one untill you pull your lifter out. I would guess maybe a dealer could run your vin# but im still not sure.

I belive our stock lifters are fine. Any gain would be from a restricted oil metering hole keeping the ratio lifters pumped up during high rpms.1997 Red GTP Coupe<br />Borla,3\" DP,!ubend,Thrasher CAI,Magnuson(3.4\"),1.9 roller rockers,Tran.
