• new cam, please give me your opinion

my next mod was going to be 3.73's, but i am short $450 to get my pcm reprogrammed, and i've seen what unprogrammed pcms + gears do...

so, this is only for the advanced tech guru's...

i am purchasing a new cam shortly, and it will probably never go any farther than NA use only, POSSIBLY nitrous in the future. here are the specs i am thinking about...

210/214
113 LSA

that's all i have so far heh. i am curious as to where my lift should be, since i do have a converter that stalls so high. the converter stalls at 3600 for those of you who do not know. my questions are, what specs you think i should go with to get the MOST horsepower out of our engines? because if you are going to do a cam, you might as well put the best one in there that you can. if anything, i would like my torque peak up just a small bit, but nothing god-awful high, cause then i would need to get the rev limiter raised--and i have no plans to do that anytime soon.

so if you would, just give me your honest opinion on what to do and what you guys think would be best. i would appreciate it. thx.

also, another thing: this is the same cam as ironman runs, and he gained about 25 rwhp with it. however, his was a regrind, and i was thinking of going with comp. now my question is, how much hp (if any) would i see gained from going comp over a regrind? i mean, would it really be worth the extra $150+?

how much lift? nitrous might prefer a little more lobe separation, but as an NA cam, it'll work pretty well. Get some great flowing heads and proper tuning, and it'll be a very good performer on the street.

I would not go with the regrind. Get a compcam. Its not really even extra money because a regrind you will have to use a longer pushrod and a compcam you can get away with using the stock pushrod. I dont know what kind of cam is good for you. Are you going to daily drive this beast? You will have to buy new valvesprings. Tell us more what you want from the cam and we might be able to help you pick one. Also you should do a search because this topic has been covered many times recently.

why change springs?

yes, i will definetely daily drive this beast

i want: the most hp and tq, without moving my peak torque much, that one can get out of a cam NA.

will that thesis work?

btw, i am thinking .450 lift would be fine, any suggestions?

It has been agreed apon that .45 lift is optimal...do not go over .50 or you will die a horrible death.

By the way, this is his DAILY DRIVER guys. In case you didnt get that. So he doesnt need a car where you can only hear it running every 3 seconds.

:D

For a big mod i dont see any reason to go small.
