That's right, I'm going to make the first front wheel drive firebird. I decided that I would do that, find an aftermarket notchback, put on a huge wing, 22" wheels...

Actually, I want to know for the purpose of dropping an l36 into a fiero. I have a *very* loose plan of possibly putting the gm i6 into my bird (at least going to look into it). And my girlfriend is going to get a fiero, if I do the conversion, can save a lot of money for her if we can use my enine (with a few upgrades of course, esp while its out of the car).

So anyone have any idea? Some assumptions to make are that I can fit it into the fiero (plenty of kits) and that I already have a fwd tranny, axle, etc that it will pretty much bolt right up to. So I am talking *strictly* about modifications I need to make to the block to put it in sideways.

Any experience (even w/ different engines) is greatly appreaciated.

that doesn't help me much

*note to everyone*

I don't believe you if you tell me I can't do it unless if you give me a specific reason as to why I cannot.

Actually, I believe the only real reason we can't use a GTP motor in a RWD car is due to the blower facing the wrong way and not fitting under the cowl correctly. Other than that, I don't see why it wouldn't fit. You're pretty much putting a transverse-mount motor into a rear-engine car, anyways.

Use Holden's blower to correct the clearance problem.

Here is the engine bay of my 84 Fiero kit car, with the L67 engine from a Bonneville SSEi.

You would have to swap out the intake and exhaust manifolds...otherwise, it's no big deal. Took about five days for the mechanic I hired to do the job, three days of which were on the wiring. So yeah, it can be done.

to answer your question which no one even looked at...

yea you can totally do a L36 into a Fiero..people have been doing it lots. they actually usually use the L67 -- but i imagine that the only thing you would have to do -- is drill a hole to move the starter to the other side. i think thats what someone w/a fiero told me i would have to do to use the DOHC 3.4 RWD'ish

as for the I6. nice plan. i would caution you tho, cause the I6 is gonna be superlong. take 6 cylinders and line them up in a row. ever see a Jeep Grand Cherokee? there is a reason the hood is flat and not angled what with Chrysler embracing the "cab forward" design. its cause sloping the hood would cause it to smack into the engine. i think thats the only problem you will run into..

anyway..

good luck with whatever you do.

Hey, I looked at it. That's why I said he would have to swap the intake and exhaust manifolds. The L67 in my Fiero of course is normally transverse mounted, on a fwd car. So you just flip it around backwards and it drops right in. An L36 in longitudinally mounted, so the intake and exhaust would be sideways...unless you switched for L67 parts. Otherwise, it's pretty much the same engine, so the answer (as already stated) is yes, it can be done.
Good luck with that inline project...if you go for it, be sure to take plenty of pictures!

Caint really help you on the swap, but it's gotta be cheaper than a 455 put in a fiero N-S wise. Did 12 sumthing N/A.

Not anymore. I had it from about 1994 til about 1998..then I sold it to some doctor in Tampa.
My wife used to call it my "Frankenstein Car" since it had a completely different body, different interior, different engine, suspension, brakes....
There are still some cool Fiero kit cars around, though...look carefully the next time you see what seems to be a Ferrari, at least half of the ones you see are fakes.

By the way, if any of you guys decide to get a Fiero, DO NOT get one with a sunroof...d@mn thing leaked every time it rained, no matter what I did (including stripping it down to the bare metal, replacing all the gaskets and metal parts, taking it to the Pontiac dealer, taking it to Rain Doctor...NOTHING stopped those leaks!)
