    Well, not trying to hate on your business, Dee. Caveat: I have lots of ideas (remember the homemade TPS-Tech) that I don't get a chance to do, based on time concerns (no time until school lets out for the winter).

    In the Intake post I was talking about increasing the intake height for torque. And then we've got TB spacers. Lets solve a few problems with one stone:
    The Intake Spacer.
    Designed to:
    1. Stop TB Coolant flow
    2. Insulate TB and Upper intake manifold from the rest of the engine, for an initially colder intake temp
    3. Create a taller intake manifold, which theoretically moves torque to a lower rpm range and increases torque #'s.

    How hard could the thing be? http://www.outlaw-engineering.com/ Sells spacers for what looks to me Mazda lower intake manifolds, complete set (1/4" all around for TB, Intake, Bolts) for $105. Now that's darn cheap. They use Phenolic, which is *cough* readily available from supply houses like aircraft spruce. They were CAD/CAM made.

    My idea: (and I need some help here). Snag a set of Upper Intake manifold gaskets (do we have these or do we use gasket maker?), and use the drill press, fun air tools, and the good ol' dremel to butcher a big enough piece of material. Figure out how to block / reroute the TB coolant channel. Get longer bolts, gasket supplies, and bolt the thing between the Upper and Lower intakes.

    Problems:
    1. Hardly any space between the manifold and the cowl / windshield. Hit a bump or slam the engine, rip a hole in your cowl and crack the windshield? I don't know.
    2. Hardly any space between the manifold and my BMR STB.
    3. I'm probably full of it, and the longer intake runner length won't be worth what I'm dreaming it will be.
    4. Hello leaks (and the poor guy who kept flooding his engine with coolant)

    Questions:
    1. Should we be focusing on the Lower Manifold and not the upper?
    2. "Hey, you should really have a CAD/CAM machinist do these"
    3. Is Dee coming out with these already?
    4. Phenolic (or Nylon is an alternative) is safe for everything, right?
    5. "Hey Rob, you don't know much about cars, do you? Or our intakes?"

    Nevertheless, if there's 3/4" of space, I'll do it (they sell stock in up to 1", but it's more expensive). I could probably find stock as tall as I need it ::footinmouth::.

    Edit: BBK and Ford Racing each make them for 5.0L Mustangs. And a few other companies make them for other cars too. Now I'm realizing that people space everything, even fuel pumps.

    yea a longer runner will give you more low rpm torque,but,it takes away top-end power

      Exactly like that, except for our engine. It seems like I should be the guy who arranges getting the parts together and having things machined, but thats a lot of cash and work that I might be up for. Unless you all want to do a GP.
      I know it may take away top end. I WANT TORQUE. I'm autocrossing the car, not drag racing, so I'm concerned with torque. Torque. Torque from 2k - 4.5k RPM. No higher, no HP.

        ZZperformance is manufacturing one, I'm not sure what it looks like or how it works but they have one in the works.

          My biggest concerns would be:
          Cost-making 5 of them would be expensive. That is even if you made them yourself. You have to be careful with phenolic and liquid ie. it soaks them up. And something that can survive the punishment of the EGR.

          Performance-I am not sure how much can be gained. The TB spacer niche is that it is relatively cheap. I think the gains(if your looking for torque) would be better on the intake, but I doubt the $/HP ratio is better than the spacer.

          Space-how much more room do you have for a spacer?


          I heard ZZP is working on one also. They may be able to make them affordable.
