• 3.4 head work gains

How much of a gain would be seen from porting and polishing the heads & intake, and running 1.6 roller tipped rockers? How about with a 3 angle valve job? All of this on the stock cam.

Will the roller tipped rockers hit the valve covers or just the full roller rockers?

I have a 3.4. Current mods are intake and cat back.

Thanks for any help or advice.

Just a port and polish job will not show too much gain. If you do a cam at the same time, you will tell very noticable gains. Neither the roller tipped rocker arms or the full rollers will hit your valve covers.

I had that setup for a long time, and I saw a good gain, but it can be even better with a cam ;)

Tiago, did you have a valve job with that or just port and polish, which rockers?

CamaroL32: If you're gonna do port/polish, you might as well get a new cam. All the neccesary parts will be pulled off, making a cam install a whole lot easier

partly right -- the fact that MOST of the necessary hardware will be off (to put a cam in while the engine is in the engine bay, also requires removal of at least the radiator (to fit it in front of the block)) -- but also that, in getting heads, you wont fully realize their airflow potential without a cam and good exhaust/intake system.

porting/polishing the heads will simply no longer make them an obstacle to airflow. but -- airflow is cutback by the most restrictive part.

Tiago got heads yes, but he also got headers, and a ported/gasket-matched intake and a LT1 TB. lots of boost of airflow going in and out.

while a cam would fully realize the heads airflow potential, the fact that he has the intake and heads and headers and exhaust all together, makes it work that much better.

Hey Russel, how bout that website? I couldn't get it to pull up.

I'm looking at doing all this stuff to my car this spring. I'm going off to grad school next fall so I want to be sure my car will last me another 5 or so years. I'm sitting on 127,000 miles right now!! I'm wanting to rebuild, so why not upgrade a little!
