• Valvetrain Set-Up

Alright, I've done searchs and have been reading on past posts and this is what I have come up with.

I'm just wanting to see what you guys think of this set up and if I need to make any changes to plans.

Cam - GT1 or GT2 (Not sure, could use some help with this. Not sure which one is right for me. I plan on getting heads P&P'ed down the road and am going to take car down to Texas to get tuned or I"ll send my PC via mail) Input on which one to get would be helpful.

Springs - LS1 Springs/w LS1 retainers (opinions on this? Will I need the LS1 retainers or should I go with something else?)

Lifters - Comp. Cams Hydrolic Roller Lifters

Rods - Not sure if I should go ahead and get rods or not. I've read that the stock ones are pretty sturdy but insurance is always a good thing to have. Was thinking of Comp. Cams Hi-Tech Pushrods.

Any imput would be greatly appreciated! I've done searches and just wanted some opinions on this set up before I buy it, Thanks :D

Edit: Cold Air Intake, Whisper Lid, and SLP smooth bellow will be here soon and I'm going to gut the cat or put a Hi flow cat in its place.

The stock roller lifters are fine, don't bother changing them. Same goes for the rockers. However, go with hardened push rods, the stock ones are the weak link in the system.

Get the 105# springs and new retainers. ZZP makes a nice set of retainers and they help with clearence.

As for the CAM, I have heard good things about the GT2. If I was N/A, that is the one I would have gone with.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

I would do new roller lifters and intense oil resticted pushrods, or comp OER lifters and stock pushrods.

LS1 springs with stock retainers and keepers.

            Car has 52,000 miles.

What about the cam? GT1 or GT2. Is there that much performance difference in the two? Difference in 1/4 mile times?

So I can use the stock retainers and keepers in my car with LS1 springs?

I think I'm going to get the GT2 cam and some 1.8 roller rockers that come with rods I saw on ftpp.com, LS1 springs (or will I need different with new rocker arms?), and Comp. Cam's Lifters.

Here we go again. People who don't know how it all ties together trying to get in over their heads.

                  GT2 cam + 1.8 rockers = .570" lift

You'd need a little more than just LS1 springs to get .570" lift to work.
                  :(

Not trying to be rude, but you really need to understand what you're doing when you do engine work like this.

Will those springs work? If so I think I'll take them.

You will need modified heads to accept lift that high, as well as stiffer springs. Comp 915 springs would be the absolute minimum, but 918 would be much safer.

That said, I don't think you really want lift that high. Stick with stock rockers with either LS1/LS6, 915, or 918 springs.

Alright, I'm not going to be doing the engine work on this. Its going to a shop for it. I don't mess with this car.

98camaro3.8 - I understand, but atleast I'm learning about this.

There are some things I do on cars and somethings I dont, internal engine work is not my place. ;) I'll leave it to the professionals. I just need to pick out my parts.

I'm not a noob to cars, I'm definately not an expert on newer cars. I have a fourwheeling rig that is built myself so I understand most of this. I'm reading up in my books about valvetrain and how it all works. I've got a fairly good idea on it but there are things I need to learn. And the best way I know on how to learn is trial and error or asking questions. Thanks for helping.

I may have come off a little more rude than I meant, and I apologize if I did. At least you are taking the time to learn, unlike so many others who just throw money at the car and expect it to be fast.

You should be pretty happy with the GT2 cam. It's got some good power up top...really starts pulling around 4000 rpm.

Like you can see in my sig, I did the GT2 cam, Comp OE lifters, 915 springs, Hi-Tech Pushrods, and SSM heads. I still need to get HP Tuners or the new DHP stuff to get the full value of this setup.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Yeah nix the 1.8 rockers, do the rest.

In order to put on those rockers you will have to pull the heads (more work for the shop, more $$$ for you.)

Thanks for the help guys. I'm pretty sure what I'm going to get now.

GT2 cam, Comp. Cams lifters, Hi-Tech Pushrods , #105 springs and ZZP Valve Spring Retainers.
