• please help!! (problem with kr)

ok everyone, heres my problem...
my setup is l32 rods with forged l67 pistons, comp 208/210 cam, comp springs, intense pushrods, and pretty much all the bolt ons...

the problem is that my car runs about a 15.2-5 @ 90 mph... and its because of kr, i had it autotapped and found that is starter with about 4kr@3000 rpms, up to about 15kr@4800 rpms. now ive tried the race gas trick... didnt help. i had my pcm tuned by tsp, timing is set at 30. i do have what i consider to be alot of soise at idle and low rpms, sounds like valvetrain chatter.

ive done all the searches on kr, and cant find a soultion. i tried using resistors once already, but they were too resistive (?) and didnt let a signal through, and car went to default timing i guess (threw a code). from what ive read i cant get a real answer on how to fix this, im pretty sure the knock is just audible noise cuz the car runs fine, no codes, just slower than it should be. im confused on the whole knock sensor relocation thing, half of the posts say it dosent work, same with resistors.

im practically ready to give up and just drive my car from now on as is, but when i think about the $4000 i have in performance mods i get kind of depressed.... please help!!

Thats alot of KR, since you tried the race gas trick, it is probably false. Your loud vavletrain is probably causing this.

Intense sells dynomat covers for the knock sensor, but I dont know if they would help your problem since its coming from inside the engine. Grand prixs get lots of false knock from the trannys and engine mounts.

I had the exact same problem. It started as soon as I put in the new CAM. I did some searching and found this web site.

http://www.charm.net/~mchaney/f-tech.htm

It will walk you through setting up a circuit that will de-sensitize your knock sensors. I did a 35% reduction on the sensitivity and the problem is gone. I can still get real knock but the false knock is gone. If I push the timing high, I can force the car into knock retard. That is how I know the sensor is still working. I have no audable knock and the car runs GREAT. The car has made two trips to the track and with a 75 shot of NO, no KR, no audable knock, no timing pulled, and no damage.

People will tell you not to do this. It is a risk. However, it does work and with $4000 already invested, it might be your only hope.

However, HP Tuners has the ability to adjust the function of the knock sensor. The reason why I used the circuit is that they do not have it for the V6 yet. I think they will be adding this to the update that should be coming out before January (heaven knows I have been bugging them enough). Once that is out, I will remove the circuit and do it through the PCM. If you need help with the circuit, let me know. Good luck.

definalty sounds like false knock to me..

only way to really find out is by tuning it..

pull timing in the trouble areas and if that dosent change anything then its probably false.
then go ahead and desensitis your knock sensors till it goes away..

the next release of hpt will have the option to desensitise the knock sensors which suld be out very soon.

good luck

thanks guys,
i was hoping a software would come out to enable that, and since i already had tsp tune my pcm, ill only have to pay for shipping to get it done!

im not in a real big hurry either, january is soon enough for me, just as long as i get it fixed before spring!!
