  • Cam installed

Well its been a week after we installed my cam. Every thing went well, the garage was a little messy but oh well.
The car is running great, it sounds nice has good little lope to it, it makes a lot of people wonder whats under the hood. THe cam that i have is a comp cam, if you want the specs look at the tims slips and look at camarozachs, its his old cam. Thanks zach. Well any way the car is throwing the trouble code p0300 multiple cylinder misfires, Does anybody know how to correct this problem. Thanks For your help, i will have sound clips hopefully soon.

Give it a tune up, play with the timing.
I see the ricers do it all the time, they swap cams and there cars run like crap and they don't know why. I ask and nearly all of them think a cam swap will instantly make more power and make your car run better. Becasue the cam is "new" I guess.
They call it a crapy cam or say that it must not made right, most of the time.

Most agressive cams will throw the P0300 code. It took 3 weeks before mine threw the code but it did. I deleted the code from the PCM using HP Tuners and no problems. If you had bought it from a dealer, they would have told you this (it is posted on ZZP web site for the CAMs they sell). I do not think there is any way around this except to delete the code or change the sensitivity of the sensor (HP Tuners can change the sensitivity on the V8 but not the V6....yet). If you can find someone with HP Tuners that supports your car (F-Body, V6, Same year), it is a one minute fix to delete the code. Good luck.

you don't have to delet the code... you just have to program the PCM so the new cam don't make it think its missing when its not

That would be nice but it can not be done with HP Tuners on the V6. Maybe a company that uses different software can do this and if so, I agree that would be better.

For me it is not a big deal because I can turn it off and on as I wish. If I think I am having a real problem, I can turn it on and see which cylinder is reporting the error. I have done this to find a burned plug wire. Once I found the problem and corected it, I turned the P0300 back off again.

Viper04af, do you know of someone who can change the PCM to fix this without deleting the code?

You can disable any of the DTC's with HPTuners on our cars!

Also, it's not a matter of making the sensor less sensitive...the crank sensor is what throws the code P0300, because of the eratic idle speed of cammed cars. Even with a good tune, if it cams much, the sensor wants to throw the code. Call TSP and talk to them about tuning your PCM..not only is it going to kill that light, but you'll squeeze alot more pony out of the motor too!

Why not delete P0300? It is like a rear O2 code. You already know why it's on. MOST OF THE TIME, if you have a specific cylinder misfiring, like a cracked plug, another DTC will be set pointing to that cylinder alone.

I get the specific cylinder misfire codes, Im not sure why, I have a stock engine. It still runs a 14.3, so whatever. It might have been from my valvefloat, I have so many codes for stupid things, I just cut the wire to my light. Guess what, that gives me a code "ENGINE LIGHT RELAY DISCONNECTED. Well thanks you guys for all you advise. I am actually looking into a good tune, but it cost so much money, that i dont have, (damn Holidays). If any body knows of a good place in illinois that would be a big help.
IM still working on the pictures.
