I saw a consistent 24mpg this summer with mostly city driving. I noticed a combined 24 last winter. between winter and summer, i switched to copper plugs (same heat range, but coppers are colder than plats), and a 180* thermostat. my mpg was great during summer, i was seeing awesome mpg pure highway.
HOWEVER, i get about 18.5 mpg right now (40* weather) with mostly HIGHWAY driving.
My only thoughts are - lower motor temp + lower air intake charge temp + colder plugs = more air = more fuel = incomplete burn (cold) = bad mpg?
is that correct? I've been told that putting the plats back in for winter and the stock thermo will allow for more mpg. I'm not concerned with performance, as local tracks are close till the end of february.
has anyone else who actually lives in a place that gets COLD noticed a difference like this?
