• Car Limits???

I didnt really know what to search for so feel free to flame away.

Like, how much hp can our cars auto tranny take?

What about the drivetrain and the rear end?

What parts will break first?

Also i have a 98 y87 firebird.

just a thought, but a question about your car's drivetrain should probably be in the drivetrain section

FWIW, our parts are internally the same as the LS1 stuff. Figure where the LS1's start breaking stuff.

The trans will break first.
The 10-bolt can take a beating, it will last a while.

How long would you guess the tranny will last with 400 hp, with 500hp?

Useing the 400 or 500hp could burn out a stock trans in a matter of days.
If it slips to start with it won't last long at all.
It has been a while sence I looked at my TH700 tech manual but I think the first thing to go would be the 2-4 shift band.
A corvett servo would be a bad idea for a mod.
You would need an after market fluid pump and a modified valve body. O you have a 98, you would have to reprogram the shift points.
You would have to get a trans built. and get a torque converter to use your new power band.
It is safe to say your car would run like crap if you keep the stock converter.

A 7.5 inch, 10-bolt, and modified (girdled, aftermarket gears and posi unit) would keep you running up to around 400 everyday HP. There was a good article on this in chevy high performance or super chevy a few months back. If you are gonna do 500 HP, I'd look towards a moser engineering ford 9inch....they're rated to like 1000 HP. Have a good holiday.
