• Magnus - Super Six Pack?? Cam?? Torque Converter?

I just got a HPP3 in today and installed it and can't tell too much of a difference in the car. I bought the Programmer so I could recalibrate the speedometer, but it turns out the the Programmer doesn't have the 4.1:1 Gear Ratio as an option, so I'm thinking of sending it back and just getting a SLP Elect. Speed Sensor, any ideas? Also does anyone have any advice on the SSM PP? It looks pretty nice, but I'm wanting to really wake my car up and get it running well. The 411's did a great job of that, but I want more. Also I'm thinking of getting a Coan Engineering Torque Converter (stall 3000) anyone had any experience with these converters? I also need an aftermarket cam. Magnus, any ideas? We all respect and take you advice so let me know what you, as well as everyone thinks. Thanks guys!

Coan makes excellent converters, but I doubt they make ones for the 3.8 V6. SLP unit will fix your speedo, but your shift will still be off. Keep the HPP.

I'm very surprised HPP3 doesn't do 4.10's. I doubt you'd notice a power increase from an HPP3 as well.

The SLP unit is decent but doesn't fix shift points. It only adjusts the speedo. Shift points are based on speedo MPH so if you have 3.42 shift points, the car will still want to shift at say 42mph.. but if you correct your speedo with the 4.10 gear, at 42mph you might be at 6400 rpm, way past the rev limiter and thus never reaching your shift point at WOT.

The best bet for now would be to use the HPP3 to program the setting as high as possible and see if you can get away with it.. and then maybe a slight adjustment with an SLP SCU would do the trick.

I really like the SSM power back. Tom@Supersix does a fantastic job porting the heads. He can also help you pick the right cam for your applicaiton. I do not think the P&P intakes are worth it though. I believe the (heads/cam/valve sprigns/pushrods) powerpack is where the power is gained.

Dom can tell you about converters.. The thing is though, Converters is not somethign I like to mess with. Some work well for your application and others will hurt you.. Stick with what works.

Regarding the cam, Tom@Supersix can help as I previousely stated.

I really appreciate the compliments. There really is no need to page me individually though. There are a bunch of advanced tech readers that really know their stuff who can help you just as much if not better than I can.

I didnt buy the p&p intakes with my kit. I just got the heads from Supersix with port and polish, valvesprings 3 angle valve job, and a comp cam. I am still waiting for the heads. Tom said it should be any day. I have the cam waiting to go in. Cant wait. But I didnt get the P&P intakes. I am also concerned about this. I did it because I am cheap. Should I get them in the near future?

I P&P'd my own intakes... but I doubt it was worth anything.. or at least very minimal gains.

As much as I like what Tom @ Supersixmotorsports does for the V6 community, I just don't think the $630 price tag justifies the questionable gains.

Heads/Cam is where the real power comes from.

Thanks for everyones advice! Here is the deal though, I can send the HPP3 back and have enough money to get the Heads, cam, and SLP Speed Sensor. That way I'll be driving legally with quite about of extra power, then my only problem would be shift points. Do transmission shops have tools to change shift points?
Also, about how much rwhp should I expect to gain if I get the heads and cam? Thanks guys.

You need a die grinder or a dremel tool and some aluminum cutting bits and sanding drums. It's a long boring process. I have some pics of my ported intakes here:

I agree with Keith, not sure the gains are worth the $$ or time you will spend on the porting of the intakes.

IRONMAN, hey you got your plenum jet hot coated right? Looks very nice. How much did it cost you to do that?
