OK, another question. How much should cam instal cost? The person I bring my car too said 600? That sounds crazy. The cam only costs 300!!!

Install cost sounds about right. I dont know anybody running the VS cam so I dont know gains. What are the specs again?

~202 intake, ~212 exhaust, a little over .502 lift on both intake and exhaust, and 115 lobe separation. the VS cam will have a smooth idle cuz of the 115 lobe separation. u'll make more power w/ the Gt cam because it's specifically made for naturally aspirated motors, but it'll lope a little bit, if not a lot. vs cam, maybe 20 hp, gt cam, maybe 30 hp, both depending on mods. the gt cam will make it's power mostly up high, and make a lot more of it, and the vs cam will get u great low end and make u a good amount more power mid range and up high.

Have you used either of these cams? If not then do you know anybody that has? How do you make these assumptions?

the hp gains are assumptions, but the rest I know from reading up on camshafts. tighter lobe separation makes more power up high in the rpm band on naturally aspirated motors because the ammount of overlap tends to increase when the lobe separation is smaller. at high rpms, the large overlap uses the intake charge to help push the exhaust out of the cylinder quicker and suck the intake in quicker, therefore making more power due to increased volumetric efficiency. at low rpms, some of the intake charge gets pulled out the exhaust because both valves are open so long, and u make less hp and tq. this also causes the idle quality to suffer and the engine to "lope". larger lobe separation tends to produce a large, broad powerband, but won't make nearly as much power on a naturally aspirated motor. it'll make much better low and mid range hp and tq because the intake stays in the cylinder longer, but the top-end suffers because the intake and can't get in quick enough before the valves close, and the exhaust isn't being pushed out except by the piston. since stock L36 cam and the VS cam have the same lobe separation, u'll see pretty much the same idle quality, but since the lift and duration of the VS cam have been increased, the powerband has moved up slightly more to the midrange and u'll see power gains all across the powerband, but u won't make as much peak power as u would w/ the GT cam.
