  • Take rich/lean readings before installing SSP?

I am going to give this a whirl...

Let's say I am going to by the SSP. As a smart move, should I use the autotap to determine how rich the car is running with the stock package (heads/cam)? Determine what is the current setting.

Then after the heads/cam are installed use the Autotap and MAFT+ to tune to air/fuel mixture to the same as the stock readings, then go richer if need be...

    What are your thoughts?

pcm should be giving you 14.7:1 air:fuel at anything other than WOT, then you should be at around 12.8:1. the pcm will still do this with the SSP i think. i see no reason why it shouldn't. i wouldn't go much richer than 12.3:1 (WOT, still 14.7 at idle and cruise) N/A if you intend on playing with mixture. which i dont really suggest.

logging several runs before and after mods is always a good idea though.

Do you plan on getting computer tuning with the SSM stuff? It seems that ( correct me if i am wrong ) that the only problem with the pack is running a little rich with out reprogramming. I would do MAFT+ or reprogramming with it. Seems like most people ( well the few that have the pak so far ) have gotten or are planning a reprogram.

This may be pre-mature; however, I am doing my homework and planning now on the car, before I spend major $$$ on modification mistakes.

Besides exhaust/induction this year, no real changes to the car until next fall (2003)...

I understand, alot can change by then; technology for vehicles, cash, possible accident, etc. Right now, I am asking questions and creating a large file of information; both performance/suspension/appearance so the modification process is done right the first time.

Thank you for the information and keep it coming.
