  • Laping valves on hot and torqued heads

I still have hit them with the with the valve guide cutter and spring seat cutter first.
I'll bolt and torque the heads to a peace of 3/8'' thick steel with holes where the cylinders would be.
Then heat the heads and valves up to about 200'F in the oven and start laping with some metal polish.
All that for a perfect valve fit.
Should be good for some low end torque.

why bolt them to a piece of steel and heat them?? you can just put them on a bench cold and lap them in w/o heating them up and they will seal perfectly...

      people still do valve lapping?

I think he's wanting to do that "simulated" torque pate thing w/the heads instead of the block.

i think he wants to heat them up, to simulate the temp that the engine runs at.

imho, it sounds like a good idea, but i dunno if it'd be worth all the extra trouble. just my $.02

keeping the temp the same while lapping all the valves might be pretty difficult, imho

I was plaining to do them one at a time.
And heat the exhaust valve with a torch some so it is well over 200 maybe 300-400 untill the metal polish starts burning, I'll do the intake valves kinda warm not quite 200*F.
It will take a while but so didn't polshing them like a mirror on there bottems and on the top of intakes(didn't bother with the tops of the exhaust valves).
I left out a part, I was going to bolt them to the steel with a cylinder head gasket.
The rings arn't the only place you can get blow by.

sorry but you wont gain anything from doing that over lapping them cold...you will be wasting your time!! but if you still wanna do it get after it im just giving you a heads up...

The pros and those ricers that buy $9,000 engines have it so it has to be worth some thing.
Plus I get bord over here, still have 6 months to work on my heads so I got time to do it all to my pair of V6 heads.
