  • Upping the power band and Rev Limiter. Advise please.

Some of you know I have been checking out cam stuff. I was checking into the comp set up of 200/206 grind. I was thinking… it’s no fun if you don’t have the SES light coming on. LOL I was looking at Keiths set up… But what about this set up. Could anyone guestimate what gains should be anticipated?

I was thinking of setting the rev limiter at 7000. Wanted to run this by everyone for suggestions, etc.

    CAM-362 - INTENSE™ Stage 2 Normally Aspirated Cam, duration @ .050": 222º/224º, lobe lifts: .337"/.327", valve lifts with 1.60:1 rocker arms: .539"/.523", lobe separation angle: 112º, intake centerline: 108º (predicting a strong powerband from 3,600 to 7,000)

Rockers: Intense 3rd generation (Harland Sharp) Full aluminum roller rockers 1.6:1 ratio.

Pushrods: Intense Lightweight pushrods weigh 425 grams per set of twelve (approximately 25% less than the factory rods) and their .049" thick 4130 seamless chrome moly one-piece design is significantly stronger than stock.

Lifters: Comp Cams "OE R Series" Hydraulic Roller Lifters are designed as an OEM replacement, but with an increase in internal preload to prevent the lifter from bleeding off.

Springs: Comp cam 105lb, or 130lb?

    Retainers: CompCams Titanium (772) retainers

    Anything else valvetrain wise?

Will the bottom end need anything? Or is it balanced well enough to hit 7k safely?

    1. Lighter pistons. (I think Ross racing pistons, and Diamond makes some lightweight pistons for our cars)
    2. Lighter connecting rods. (I think Manley makes some for our cars)
    3. Other?

Well, I e-mailed the manufacture's last night. They said the factory pistions are actually lighter than the aftermarket diamond race pistons.

They also said that the bottom end should be ok to 7k and is good to about 500hp. I guess this makes sense since some folks on the board have added superchargers with no major issues. I don't think my N/A 6 will hit near that any time soon.

They said the valve train combo is good, and suggested milling the valve guides. :D

You have to have the valve guides milled to go that high in lift. As far as the new INTENSE rockers, they are awesome. I already ordered a set of the 1.9's for my GTP. They are full body aluminum pieces instead of stamped steel. Much lighter.

What does milling the valve guide entail? About how much does this usually cost from a machine shop?
