  • Curious mind inquires... Cam question (long)

I have been reading all the info i can get from this board on cam selection and everyone seems to be running close to or if not the exact cams that ZZperformance or supersix put out... Some people are looking for the motor performance, but others inquire about nitrous cams... I plan on running the nitrous in the summer so I am in this category as well.

In my area there are a few guys running around with cammed ls1's and i am not too sure how they differ in cam seletion and response as outr 3.8's do, but with them a cam with a 112 lobe seperation and identical lift and duration to a 117 lobe seperation sees totally different times with the nitrous...

on here I see everyone jumping on the GT cam and others with a 111-113 lobe seperation looking to run motor and hoping to run great with nitrous, but i mean a cam is gonna help with power being anything over stock, but wouldnt the same properties from LS1's apply to our cars? Why dont I see this on our boards, the cammed nitrous cars with a wider seperation?

A friend of mine put a ligenfelter cam with a 117 lobe seperation in his car and he was out running everyone on the bottle with an identical lift and duration cam but with a tighter lobe seperation who were also sparying.

Cams are somthing new to me and i am greatly reaserching and learning from everyone what the best cam for my car would be. Talking to an engine builder, he says that if i went with a cam made for a blower car, GTP, with a higher duration and lift with the same 115 lobe seperation as the stock cam I would see power on motor, and superior power on the nitrous... the motor power wouldnt be as high as a "motor" cam but the gains will still exist.

So my question to everyone who reads this is: Whtat is your opinion of this topic at hand? I am looking at a 210/220 .512/.512 115LS for my car... made for a boost car, making power from 1000-5500. I am not basing my cam selection off the idle sound or roughness of idle, it sounds cool and everything but thats not what i am looking for, I am looking for power, not an 11 second v6 car, but just somthiung to stay with the v8's. infact, if i can make decent power gains and keep the idle sterile I would be in heaven.. My car is my only vehicle and drivabilty and reliability are key to my modifications... Anyways, I know this was long but i cant sum it all up in a few sentences.. I hope I can get some decnt feedback from everyone.

    Thanks

I'm running the vs cam from zzperformance and it is not too much different from what you want to run in yours, 206/216 115ls. It idles great and there are no ses lights. The power of it feels outstanding with the blower. So I say go for it.
