  • Specific questions about a cam set up.

    Guys I just talked to comp cams about a specific set up. The set up is as follows:

    Camp part # 76-801-9 200int 206exh = .496int and .480exh w/ 112 lobe separation and 108 centerline.
    Springs part #26918-12 Good for .625 of lift.

    Comp cam stated to use the stock push-rods, rockers, rollers, etc. He said you can use the stock retainers but suggested part #774-12 for the retainers. I could not find that one listed on the web-site. Can anyone else find them?

    Aside from Gaskets, does this set up look ok? The comp cam tech was not sure if this would create any computer-related problems. He wasn’t much help… thus my post. Heh heh.

    1. Is there anything else I need you guys can think of?
    2. Do you guys know about how much HP this will make? (I know I could go more extreme but do not want to)
    3. Will the high octane Hypertech power programmer 3 setting still work with this?
    4. Will the 112 lobe separation chop nicely? I don’t exactly want it to chop so bad it won’t stay at idle but a nice chop is good!  The comp cam tech was unsure of this as well.

    I suggest a 113IC over the 108. Your powerband will be much better. The hpp3 should still work with it, but god knows if it would help or hurt it. And to give you an idea on the chop, that cam will have 34.5° of valve overlap.

    Most people with a hard chop have 41-47° of overlap.

    That cam will idle with a very light chop, but it won't sound stock due to the 112LS thats for sure.

      Thanks Dominic that is about what I suspected. I didn't want the really hard chop like some folks have. I think Camaro Zack has a harder chop on his. I want a little less. (that happens as you get older) Heh heh. LOL!

      Am I missing any other parts that might be needed?

      What should be the anticipated gains?

      Just as a side noete...The purpose of all my questions is that I am trying to weigh out the pro's and con's of doing this type of a mild cam set up VS. the FT force blower set up which is also somewhat mild.

        I would swap cams long before I would install a blower. The results are far better for the money, and the sound is always nice too [img]smile.gif[/img]

          Does anyone know for a fact of the HHP3 will work with this set up?

          Is anyone here using this set up?

            The HPP3 adjusts the fuel and timing curves based on stock engines. I doubt the tuning will work properly on a cammed motor.

              Ah, but the question is, will the Hypertech tuning be better than the stock tuning, considering that neither is meant to handle a cam?

              I'm prob doing a cam next year (probably the same one being considered here), and while I'll eventually Autotap/MAFT+ it, some good discussion on whether the stock tuning or one of the HPP3 programs would work better in the meantime would be cool.

                I was intially thinking like Jason just because it is probably programmed to optimize stock engine that is not modified. However, I wonder what effect it would have on a cam set up?

                Is anyone here running the set up I asked about?

                About how much HP should this set up produce? Any close guesses?
