• Going to get a cam

Yeah so i found a place to install a cam for me at a really good price...so i am going to get one. I am going to get the comp cam 255/262 cam and i am going to get my heads P&P the heads while we are in there.
This is what i have gathered. I am going to need new springs and a install kit. Do i NEED new pushrods...cause i am strapped for cash and every penny counts but if i need them i will get them.
For springs i am going to use LS6 springs cause i have wholesale license and get them for a good price. So my question for those are if i am using LS6 springs can i reuse my stock keepers and retainers or do i need to oreder LS6 ones?
Who sells the cheapest and best install kit that will come with everything that i need in it.
Do i NEED to order pushrods?
Cheapest cam i could find was ftpp.net for like 268...is that the best place to buy it from?
Is there anything else that i need?

If you can't afford to do it right, don't do it at all. Get Comp 915 springs and pushrods at least.

My opinion: don't waste your money on such a small cam. If you want to go NA, at least get a GT1 cam or similar.

By the time you're done, it will cost at least $1000 + install price.

DO NOT buy from ftforce!!!!!!
Edit: I see you changed ftforce to ftpp.net...big difference there. FTPP is great.

LS6 springs will work fine, thanks for your opinion though.

What 98camaro3.8 said, do it right or dont do it at all. Yea true LS6 springs will work, but they are really weak compared to the 915's and 918's and will be way more likely to float at RPM. Just a suggestion, its your money.

Yes...but the question is, considering that i am not going to have my car over 6000 rpm am i reallyl going to have to worry about valve float? Considering that they hold up on a Z06 til 6500, i think they will be able to take the abuse that i am going to throw at them.
Thanks for the suggestion on the GT1 cam though, checked out the specs on that, it is really nice, i am reconsidering to that.
And on the site it says that the GT1 can just slide on in, you don't need to change anything. Stock replacement. No need for any new springs or anything.

There's more to it than just RPMs. The Z06 doesn't even have .480" lift, and you have to take into account the shape of the lobe.

Sounds like you need to do some serious searching here. The car will run, but it is not a good idea.

The LS6 springs are 90lb springs good to .550 lift I think it was, so it will be fine with a .507 cam

Guys also consider that Ender would like to keep gas mileage and keep drivability, he shifts his car at 2300 freakin RPM

That GT1 cam is pretty nice for a mild street cam without losing drivability.. do you guys know if ZZP is correct when they say it can use all stock stuff?

oh, and what are you cam specs wickedsix?

Ender, one thing to always keep in mind.
YOU ARE IN CALIFORNIA.

Do a lot of research on this before you buy to make sure that you will still pass SMOG!

No you do not need new push rods. Stock will work just fine, I kept mine in when I put in the cam and have no problems. You will be fine.

I still haven't figured out how to edit my posts! I just wanted to add that when I put the cam in, the Camaro had 113,000 miles on it.

Yeah...you have a GT cam, did you keep all your other stock componets to? Like stock valve springs and retainers and what not? If so how many miles have you been running on the cam, and do you get any float?

I changed out the springs and retainers for some comp parts plus a new timing chain since it had so many miles. No valve float but the Jet chip tripped the SES light-took out the chip and no more problems!
