  • another maft+ settings question

first off you need to know that i am stupid. instead of getting a laptop and autotap i got headers. so now i am stuck with the SSM power pack, a maft+, and no way to get any readings. i was told that i was running way rich by the guys at the dyno. turns out they are morons!!!! the guy who installed my headers said he could tell by looking at my o2 sensor that i was running lean. which is what tom expected because of the head work.

my question is this. can i adjust the settings to to faten it up a bit and be ok like that till i do get a laptop? about how much should i go? i really dont like the idea that i am driving lean. i am really worried about it but i dont want to mess anything else up. the guys at the dyno set it to 2% lean and the car was driving like caca. i had it set back to original and it felt a lot better. then i gutted the cat and the welder left the o2 sensor off and it began driving like crap. now i have the o2 simm back on and was wanting to richen it up a little and see how that does. what do you guys think i should do? other than sell the car and start all over.

hmmm, autotap and no headers, or headers and no autotap... Neither one sounds like the ideal situation.

The pcm should be able to compensate at part-throttle because it will use the o2 sensors to cross check the amount of fuel it's adding, so the major problem area would be WOT.

If setting it from 2 lean back to zero helped, you could always try 2 rich. And then 4 rich, then 6 rich, and so on, until it drops off again, or black smoke rolls... Then half it. Or just go straight to 4 rich and hold there until you can get an autotap on it.

As they always say, better a little too rich than too lean.

nino, are you still having engine issues?

I'm sorry I haven't replied yet, I've been VERY busy with work and all. Should I still reply addressing the issues?

Go with a +4% on the WOT to richen it up.

        thanks guys.

magnus, i think its a blown valve seal, but i am not 100% certain. i dont see any oil from above the hood, but when i get under the car i see oil under there. the smoke out of the car is ungodly when i start it up. i still wouldnt say it is blue though.

would running lean cause that misfire under WOT? i will start at +4% tomorrow. thanks

oil underneath the engine is probably from valve cover gaskets..

I have oil on a few plug threads cause it drips down from the valve cover.

You could be misfiring from fouled plugs maybe. Pull them and check them.

I pull the plugs every few thousand miles.. i like to put a fresh set of coppers in every 5K.
