  • Which 3.4 Cam

    so i called Comp Cams today, and their reccomendation was a 212 212 .470 .470 112 lsa

i wanted the 228 228 506 506 113 las, and they said that i didn't have the displacement and fuel injection wouldn't handle it. is this bull, i mean i have over 10.2:1compression, and holley afpr, p&p heads, intakes, lt1 tb, and 19 lb venom injectors, and si valves. Does anyone know why they are saying this, and do you have any other good reccomendations?also, they said that a 110 las isn't for fuel injected, i need 113 or higher, is this bull. i talked to 2 diff techs. if you have suggestions, let me know. thanks.

That dude who runs FTPP runs a 228 228 .496 .496 110 ... I don't think those guys know what they're talking about. Everyone who has done a cam swap in our car runs below 113, but they say you need higher than 113?

yeah, hmm the tech guy says that all fuel injected cars should have a 113 or higher lsa. Also, does anyone know if i can just get the cam i wanted above, but get it ground in a 110 or 112 lsa for instance?

You can make it whatever LSA you want. When they give you the grind number on your cam, the last few digits will be H112, for example. The 112 is the LSA in this case so a H110 would be a 110 LSA. You can change the LSA however you want.

I really believe Comp is correct because without tuning, the chances of the car running like crap are pretty high if you get a huge cam. Just because so and so runs that cam doesnt mean it runs good. I dont have a 3.4, but my car without tuning only made 208 rwhp, I'd listen to Comp, they're just trying to help you.

well, i am getting tuning, fast chips custom tune. btw I do have a hollley air fuel pressure regulator, and do have an msd dis-4. I think with the custom intake like josh's, i can handle the 228 228 durattion or something similar. would the crane H-272-2 be too mild? does anyone know the lift of that cam with 1.6 rockers

What are the specs of that cam? Is it the 212/212? If so the lift with 1.6 rockers would be .453"

do you have fast chips tuning??? because before you dog the custom tuning,i would actually have first hand experience. Second, i want to have a speed shop around here tune the car, but there aren't many options, other than fast chips. studly, why did you do all the work on your maro, and put such a wimpy cam in there?? don't knock my ideas, Third, because i know that it isn't easy, but once done, a WELL camed car, and i do mean WELL (not including the edelbrock performer princess cams) may take more to run right, but in the long run will outperform any stock application cam. my engine is not stock btw, therefore why build a high compression motor, custom intake manifold, and porter heads with larger valves only to throw a mild cam in, i duno about you but i'm going for balls here...."that is a good idea"

feel free to have them tune the car, i hope it works well for you, im just expressing that a bad tune (say one orderd from a company without being on the dyno) can destroy a motor, and with the lack of modded 3.4L's i can safely say that i doubt that fasthips has not dyno tuned many (if any) cars like what you are purposing

do you know how these large mail order tune companies work? they have a pile of things that they take into account, injector size, displacement, head flow rates, cam specs.... then they can estimate a tune that will be somewhat accurate

without at least a few cars it will be very hard to make a generic tune for a car without much experience tuning

they currently offer a tune for a stock car... this tune is for a car that is just that stock, i know of people with ls1 cars around the STL area that have had some bolt ons on their car, then they got it tuned for the mods they have.. after that they add a cam and a set of heads.. the car runs like ***, they put the stock tune back on the car and it actually ran better.. however then they tune it for the cam and the other mods and it runs really strong...

what whimpy cam is it that you refer to? my cam?yeah its pretty damn whimpy, you are right, its the stock one.....

when is your car going to be ready? i would like to see the results
