hey everyone.i'm thinkin about putting an 8.1 litre engine in my 94 v6 out of an avalanche.does anyone have numbers on this engine like power and average price?would this serve as a better engine than a ls1?especially after i rework and bore out all the components and put a duramax charger on it with nos? 8.1 is considerably bigger than 5.7 so would my gain be that much bigger?i heard these engines push those big moving trucks that gm makes to 60 in 44seconds comared to like a minute and a half from 350s and 2 minutes from ford? Any help is appreciated!

holy cow dude, thats 502 cubic inches. look at jegs, summit, or any magazine. the truck engine i think puts out 380 hp stock im not sure. look on a chevy website. also you can buy these things with 650 hp for like 6,000 if you have that kind of pocket change. they make some supercharged ones with like 950 hps. they are a huge engine though. you better beef up your suspension and drivetrain, but im sure you already knew that. you dont have to bore it out but whatever floats your boat or gets your camaro in the 9's dude. keep us posted because this will be an interesting job. im not sure if it will fit but its up to you how much fabrication you will want to do. your car will be sycho man, good luck with keeping her on the road.96 Camaro 3.8 A4 Basemodel: 8 mm wires, Shift Kit, Hollowed
Cat(o2 sims), RKSport exhaust, IAT 5.6K resistor, Home Depot CAI
>>>15.375 @ 89.27<<<NEW BEST TIME http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/552491

How much will it cost you say? Not sure but most likely ALOT unless you have a hook up. Salvage yards don't have dumb BillRay running them anymore. Alot of them do a break down on the vehicles and know the fair market value on most stuff. Hence why alot of Yards won't let you pull the parts anymore, because people get greedy and steal.
They problems I see are the wieght on the front end, clearences in the engine bay for the top end of the engine and exhuast. Definatly need to beef up the front suspension, that's a lot of iron up front and even after I seriously doubt it will corner all that well. But would be lethal in a straight line. The top end of the engine will need to be "fabbed" to make the engine fit. "Arizona Marine and Speed" did a real trick dual plenum manifold Setup for GM's 572 Concept. And lastly the Exhuast unless there's a company making these hears you'll have to do it yourself. Not a huge deal ,people fab headers all the time but I can imagine clearences will be an issue. Of course there is all the small potatoes such as plumbing, elctronics, mounts, drive shaft and so on and so forth. But look at it this way....It's been done before so it can be done again. Personally if it were me, I'd just stick with the LS1. All Aluminum engine, suspension part are already available. Along with a slew of aftermarket parts. I'm one of those that believe that a small block can be built up and stomp on a rat motor everytime. Plus aftermarket stuff is cheaper for small blocks than it is for BB. But don't let me burst your bubble and don't get me wrong....Big blocks are always cool. Would love to see you succeed. Wish you the best of luck.

a good route to look for the motor may be one of the local places taht sells rebuildable cars. i know out here on teh east cost there are a ton of them(lots of bad drivers make for lots of rebuildable wrecks )
most of the time you can pick up a complete, low mileage vehicle for cheap enough that you can take out the motor and trans and still make most of your money back selling off the parts you don't need.
hope this helps
