  • Something is ticking..

Started up the car this morning to hear something clicking with the engine. It goes with the rev's so I figure its something inside. Had a few gear heads diagnose that its a lifter on the passenger side thats making the noise. They told me to put some tranny fluid in with my oil and hope that it fixes it. Are they correct? And if that doesn't work what am I looking at to get it fixed? If the tranny fluid does work should I continue to keep a bit of tranny fluid in whenever I change the oil from now on?

Please help this is driving me up a wall anything I can answer for you please ask. Thanks guys.

Could be just a header leak. Put your hand around the exhaust, but don't get burned. Or EGR leak.

How can i test for an EGR leak? So just put my hand around my manifolds and feel for air to find a header leak? Thanks for the info I want to get stuff straight before I dive into this thing with blinders on if its an easier problem.

EDIT: When I opened it up driving down the road it felt like it wasn't getting full power, could that still be a header leak?

Could be a lifter. Put some seafoam in, then do an oil change, and if it doesnt go away, replace your lifters/pushrods. They're not that expensive.

It is more than likely an exhaust header leak. Does the noise get louder throughout the RPM range as you drive?

Those are 3.8 prices. The 3.4 has a regular hydraulic cam.

Is this something I can do with a few buddies of mine or am I going to have to break out the lube and take it to a dealship and wait for what they have to say?
