I know no one ready reads the help files in windows, but the obd-2's help files are awesome. I'm not as far along as Huff, but I have gotten it to do the things I want from it.

To my knowledge it does. From what I can tell the OBD II's graphical user interface isn't as advanced as AutoTap's. That accounts for some of the price difference in OBD II and AutoTap I think.

Autotap is still patheticly slow. It's good for looking at O2s and KR and SES codes, things like that. But logging is seriously slow. I'm waiting for some high speed logging device. With the processors so fast and cheap now a days it's a shame auto tap is so slow. If it could somehow use the laptops CPU power to log. USB2.0 and firewire are plenty fast for logging at high speed. I don't know what their deal is. They are way behind the times.

The reason behind that problem is the OBD-II system is serial based and slow to boot. like 19200 baud slow ;) . Not much we can do about it, just an inheraint design problem with current on board systems :( ... back in the day it used to be 9600 baud , you should feel lucky its 19200 baud.

Can you re-flash with auto-tap or is it a read only deal?

To reflash you need a TECH-2 or a Flash memory chip reader/writer such as an EMP-20 with the 28F400 device for the 44 pin PSOP package.

2k uhhhhhh no. 600= maybe? I did see a thread in here about hypertech comming out with a PP3 for the 02's. If that happens it may be the lesser expesive alternative. What do you think?

I know you can download both obd2 and autotap software for free. The only thing is you need the cable to hook up to your computer. I was looking at just buying the cable but they seem pretty expensive. Some places wanted as much as the program. If you bought OBD2 couldn't you just use that same cable with autotap if you prefered autotap?

Just an FYI for anybody thinking about purchasing AutoTap in the near future. WAIT until Windows v2.03 is released. There are a bunch of bugs in v2.02 that are supposed to be getting fixed. The most problematic of these is that the logged O2 readings are NOT correct and are inflated from the real-time data. This has been a HUGE headache for me since for a while now I thought that I had a problem with my car when actually I am logging false data from AutoTap!
