Anyone know if converting the F-Body's V6 to 4 Valves per Cylinder, instead of 2, is possible? Just wondering... Thanks in advance. :D

i got a question to go along with this one:
if i had a hugh amount of money that i won in Vegas or something like around 60 million dollars would it be possible to install a Vtec type setup also? and would you see higher high end RWHP numbers?

Try doing a search, its been discussed before. IMO not worth the money.

I did try searching, Dojo, and I couldn't come up with anything... Well, nothing of importance anyway. What kinda search string should I use? I already tried 'Valves per Cylinder'. Thanks.2002 Pontiac Firebird
Black, Coupe, Automatic
Mods:
Dual FlowMaster Exhaust w/ 3\" Chrome Tips

How about both? Sounds like a great idea to me... a 24 valve DOHC for the camaro V6 with a form of variable valve timing... Everyone else seems like they are coming out with a form of valve timing, why not Chevrolet? I think general motors has some explaining to do... There is a dohc 3.4,they used to put it in z34's and monte carlo ss's.
If ya wanted that engine tho you'd have to get the whole thing as just the heads wont fit on our 3.4's. the dohc and ohv have differant blocks
You could put the dohc 3.4 in our cars but sence it was a fwd engine:
The intake would face the back of the engine, but you can turn it around, would probably need a new throttle cable
The starter is on the wrong sidefor our tranny's,you'd have to take it to a machine shop and hve them drill the block to mount the starter on the other side
You'd also have to have the dohc's cpu and wiring harness

I know, I tried searching for it too after I replied to your post, couldn't find the damn thing. For the life of my I can't remember what the title was. Basically we came to the conclusion that having all that custom work done($$) would not yeild much more power. Anything is possible with enough $, but some things just aren't worth it. My 2 cents.~Derrick My Webpage
\'96 3.8L V6 M5 Firebird Y87 | 162.8 RWHP / 196.7 RWTQ
• SLP CAI • Y87 Package - 3.23s • 180º thermo w/ fan switch • TB spacer from DEE
1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4x4

4 valve per cyl. would cost alot of money I would think. And I dont think they would all run off one cam. You would probly have to setup a dohc. So after millions of dollars in R&D you would then have 4 valve per cyl. NOt worth it if you ask me. This is insane.

4 v/cyl is just too much for an OHV engine. the heads would have to be TOTALLY custom, we're talkin like a 5000 dollar job just to have them fabbed up. you're better off just building a 502 engine for that price, ,to be honest. no flame at all. but it's just too much $ for the power gains2011 Camaro LS 6M, in black.

it's possible. you'd have to seal up the stock cam location and pushrod areas. custom heads would have to be made, as well as pulleys to drive them off the front of the engine. take a look at a Nissan 300Z setup. Also, the only reason imports use Vtec, VVTL-i, ect. is because of the high rpm's they run. they run a cam that makes good power down low(wide lobe separation, small overlap area), and a second cam that makes more power up high(less lobe separation, large overlap area). I'd do vtec is you planned on de-stroking the motor to run higher rpm's, say up to 7500-10000 rpm. this would be too time consuming to do on our cars. Just keep the stock redline(6000-6500) and try to run sohc(1 cam per bank, 2 cam's total) and do it that way so the computer doesn't get all pissy and need a lot of work to recalibrate everything.2001 Arctic White Firebird
More mods than I\'m allowed to list!

That is cool! That is actually better than vtec. we won't have to get new cams if we were to get the ssm powerpak, we'd just need the heads taken care of and maybe bigger valves installed. this will work especially well w/ the ati sc kit since boost increases w/ rpm when using centrifugal sc's. hell, this will help top-end emissions as well, helping the engine evacuate all the exhaust out of the cylinder w/o buying a cam w/ a lot of overlap, sacrificing low-end power and emissions. when increasing rocker ratio, you increase lift as well as duration.2001 Arctic White Firebird
More mods than I\'m allowed to list!
