      That said,

I'm serious. I just want to be able to extract the codes. that's it. nothing but codes.

I'm willing to thumb through a manual about OBDII (or is it ODBII?) if someone can point me in the right direction.

Yes, I can program microcontrollers and add in any serial protocols that the computer uses. I can write the code to display the codes on an LCD screen.

Has anyone heard of someone doing this before?

If not, can anyone point me to the technical manual?

      thanks

... if all you want to do is scan codes.. i would reccomend just bying an obdII scanner off ebay..
i couldent imagine it costing anymore then $50..

odds are that buying it will be less then the cost of developing your own scanner..

i remeber you asking a similar question a while ago.. people gave you a link to a website that magnus hosts.. dxsoftware or something like that.. ask around..

I am working on a similar project with a friend this summer to edit my computer.. he works for the navy research labs here in MD.. and well he somehow managed to extract and update the pcms eprom via the obdii port on military spec hummers.. and he dosent think that my car will be much diffrent.. we will see about it...

So, if you wait a while I may have some info for you.. So, Dont be a turd or i will "no free post" my foot up your (insert vocab here)..

          I wish I could buy a scanner...but I really can't, can't spend a dime.

I ask because I have all the resources I need...and this should be much easier than my previous request.

Keith - can you please give me that link?
