• Timing retard - what works? (trc-1 no longer available...)

Who knows what it takes to retard (or advance) the timing on our cars...

With the bigger nitrous shot, I need to retard my timing to eliminate the 9-10 degrees of KR.

    I can't see dropping $300 on a MAFT+ though, when I already have a MAFT.

Where does the unit splice into the wiring on the stock igntion?

john: i believe the trc-1 will work for you. when the powerdyne kit is purchased of rksport, this unit is supplied with the kit..

i know ironman24 is running on and i believe you have to splice it into the pcm.

Mike Huff should jump in here. I know he's gone through several retard(ed) routes. ;)

john, you can also splice a 750ohm resistor into the IAT wire. the computer will think the car is running off extremely hot air and it will pull timing to compensate and to reduce detention..

this is the opposite of that rksport resistor mod.

Any idea how much timing would be pulled?

Thanks for the leads on ironman24, I have an email off to him, and have been researching the trc-1 unit.

I'm getting 10 degrees of kr, so the 3 degrees might not do it. The trc-1 looks like a nice little box. I like how it can be adjusted going down the road, not like the maft+.

I've been prowling through the '98 pinouts, and there are some possibilities of where to tie it in, but I don't know where for sure.

The rear bank, has a ppl/white ignition wire.

The front bank has a blk camshaft position wire.

The ign module (***wherever this is***) has Pin A as a wht wire for ignition control... But it also has some 3x, 18x reference wires. And the trc-1 doc refers to tieing into a "reference" wire in some cases... So I'm quite confused on where to tie this thing it.

i'm sure ironman can hook you up with the indtructions. i need a retard device too. the maft+ sucks. are you going to continue to run the 150 shot..

As long as the engine holds up I will... :D

I'm thinking about a second stage, another 50 shot, from 4500-6000 rpms only. (which is right at 90%+ of the 2nd and 3rd gear range at the track...)

Gotta get the kr resolved first though.

I am going to join the 12's club very soon.

i'm thinking maybe you have to splice the same wire that is used for the maft+ to control the timing.

                              That's what I'm thinking too.

but.... I don't know what wire that is either...

One of our maft+ people on here ought to know. Some of them are running aftermarket ignitions though.

Anyone tapped into the stock ignition?
