Timing retard - what works? (trc-1 no longer available...)

John, I've been out of town for the last few days, just sent a reply to your email before I found this post.

Somebody else on the board, I think it was slacker tried the TRC unit and it did not work. I'm using the boost retard feature hooked up to a MAP sensor. It's retarding the timing using the same wire from the PCM to the ICM that the MAFT+ uses. The link I had to the 98 pinouts is dead but I know they are different from the 99 so make sure you are looking at the correct pinout sheet.

I believe it is the white wire. That's the one called ignition control. The other candidates are 3x and 18x references... Probably not those.

The white wire was mentioned in the link a couple posts up too. It was for a gtp I believe, but the icm layout is probably the same.

I'm going to give the trc-1 a try, since I already special ordered it. (it was half the price of the maft+...)

When I wire it, I'll tie it into my nos relay, so it only comes on when I'm spraying.

The local speed shop came back and said their sales rep explained that the TRC-1 is no longer available...

Any other units besides the MAFT+ that can retard timing? (for less than $300....)

I'm thinking about a second stage, another 50 shot, from 4500-6000 rpms only. (which is right at 90%+ of the 2nd and 3rd gear range at the track...)
