• Going to get a 'dual' tune 93 and 110 octance, need info.

I've been sending some emails to Wester's(place I got my custom tune done) about octane and what I should run to get my best performance. Well, right now I have the 93 octance hot tune which I'm loving and I asked them if I used higher octane if that would help my performance any. They told me no(which I figured, just wanted to make sure). But, they told me that they could do a dual tune, and I could have one done for 93 and 110 octance. I was like ohhh sweettttt

Now my questions are. When I get this tune, and I run the 110 octance. Is this going to be to much for my stock internals. The only internal engine part that I have changed are my rockers. I changed them to the SLP 1.8 rockers. Plus will my fuel injectors be able to hold up to such a timing advance along with my fuel pump. Other than that, my Camaro is well setup for it.

Here are my current mods.
free air intake mod, holley filter, removed MAF screen, 160 thermy, manual fan switch, after market plugs and wires, CIA headers, high flow cat, 3" exhaust, edelbrock muffler, LSD, B&M Ripper shifter, SLP 1.8 rockers, EGR unhooked from headers and hooked to a breather, and right now the custom tune from Wester's. I think that is everything.

So, what do you all think. Will my car beable to hold up to such advance timing. I did a search and I could find nothing on this, which is why I'm posting. I'm wondering has anyone ever had their timing advanced to use 110 octane?

Thanks for any info you can give.

Rock on,

the power u'd gain from advancing timing wouldn't be worth spending the money on the fuel.

Yeah... I'd suggest MSD-DIS-4/Coils, much better idle.

Hey, thanks for the replies. I went ahead and got the free upgrade and it should be here in a few days. I'm going to go ahead and try it since I could not find any post on here that anyone has tried to advance their timing for 110 octane. I was just wondering if my engine and injectors could take it. I think they could since with the stock engine and injectors they can handle around 9 or 10 psi if not more.

Hey Hawgs, where you saying that I should get MSD-DIS-4/Coils to help with the timing advance?

Thanks,

Engine internals and injectors wont have anything to do with ignition timing- unless you were getting some serious detonation...

Where are you getting 110 octane?

There is a gas station that is close to the Bristol Speedway that sells it. I think there are a few other places around Bristol that sells it also if I'm not mistaking. And I'm about sure that the drag way sells it also.

Thanks,

That is cool they gave you the free update. I have found Westers to be pleasant to work with. Lyndon Wester is the guys name and he has always responed to my emails the same day I send them and is very helpful.

The first PCM I got from him didn't work which I believe is because I had a bad alternator when I put it in and my car lost all power during the initial learning period (didn't know I had a bad alternator yet) and I think I fried it or something. Anyway, he sent me another one and WOW!

On the second one he said he had found more parameters between my first one a second one and was able to get more performance out of it.

Since you got a new one you will be getting these new updates.

I need to email and ask him about fan turn on temps and rear o2 sensor codes (getting rid of it).

I highly doubt our engines are near high compression enough to take advantage of 110 octane. But since they are sending you a free update with a dual tune can't hurt to try!

It depends on how much a retune costs really. That gas station is where we get gas for the streetfights. Do you run in them?

My crew it varies I'm the only six left, but about 5 or so when we can get off work 3 of us (me included) work at Hardee's but since I'm on dayshift I have the time but none to run with. We're all GM that's a good thing, a 93 Camaro LT4, 76? SS Nova, 91 Camaro RS (350), 7? SS Nova, my 02 Firebird, but of all those cars only two have been run th 76 and me we were about even, sadly. I try to recruit, con, or swindle anybody to come: "you know you want to, your caviler could probably run in the 11s" but nobody that races me on the street will race me on the track (too public).
Hope I can see you sometime, I want to see what your car can do.

I'm pretty sure 104 octane is the highest UNLEADED fuel you can get out of a pump. Do NOT, repeat, DO NOT run 110 LEADED fuel. You will **** things up. You WILL be buying at the minimum 3 $60 o2 sensors.

Well, I'm going to the drag strip tonight. I won't be running the 110 though. I'm having to send the computer back to Westers since my speedo is way off when I installed it. So, I'll still be running the 93 hot tune that they first tuned for me.
