  • IM JUST A LITTLE GUY! (CROWER CAM SUCKS)

    SO I got my cam from CROWER. I gave him specific specs for the cam that I wanted the 214/214 500/500. He says he couldnt grind that much material off because the metal would be too soft. So I dont know what P uss y wouldnt grind my cam the way I wanted but this is what I got:

    196/196 Duration
    .310/.310 @ 1.6 = .496/.496
    LS = 115
    IC = 111

    I am very upset about my issues with Compcam and now CROWER. But I will put it in and run with it see what this mild cam will do. If I dont like it I will be getting a COMPCAM put in as soon as they get more cores.

    I think I officially have the smallest aftermarket cam.

          With a regrind, you can only grind so much. Even mike requested a tighter lobe separation but they could only get 113LS instead of the desired 112.

          Another reason why I keep strongly recomending against regrinds.

          It really sucks for Preston. We're in the similar boats, just on different rivers.. *sigh*

            I am aware of this. he wouldnt even give me the option of 210/214. I am very upset about this cam its a fricking joke. I am most definatly going to go with a compcam ASAP. Soon as they get grinds im all over it. I cant believe they were being such vaginias about the grind I wanted.

              I would most definetly send that cam back - why would you install something you don't want and didn't order!?

              Just run the stock cam until you can get something worthwhile, even if it costs a little more it'll be worth it down the road.

                Yes, why bother even ordering it. Did you talk to him before he sent it or after? I wouldn't bother ordering it if that's all they got out of it. Guess i'm not going to be experimenting with Crower cams now.

                  Yea I would do that but only one problem. I no longer have the stock cam. Its a regrind. There is no way I am waiting for comp to get cores. My mechanic does not want my car at his garage for another month just sitting there and niether do I. So we have to run with this little whimpy cam. I know it sucks but I have no choice. I will get a dyno after the car is put togher. I will then get a compcam and have him install it. Then get another dyno. I have already talked to my mechanic about this and he is aware that this cam is temporary. I told him if I dont like it its coming out and we get a compcam. I have no choice. This is what I have to do. So everyone bare with me as I bend over and grab my ankles with compcams and Mr. Crower take turns ramming me in the. Ok nevermind. But you know how I feel.

                      Its no big thing really. Look at it like this. I am getting charged labor cost because my mechanic pulled the cam out already. The CROWER I have now is better than stock and it only cost $125. So all in all im out $125. Thats not that much extra. Plus winter is coming up. The local track is closed for the season. As long as I get my compcam before track opens next year I will be happy. Pisses me off yes. But now much I can do.

                      Slacker, I contacted comp again. they said cores could be here any day. If this is the case I will be ordering mine ASAP.

                          How big?

                          I was thinking. Nobody is using anything more than .520 lift. What is the limit as far as Piston to valve clearence. We know .520 is safe but If we could go higher. Like .528 or more, this will open up a lot more options for different durations.

                            My 212/212 is VERY nice for a daily driver. It's a VERY nice street cam... but as most of you know my car is not a street car.

                            http://www.compcams.com/catalog/230.html

                            I'll probably go with 224/224 112LS. Not sure about which lift.. I might try the .605 valve lift.

                            I've heard of GTP guys running thrasher cams with higher ratio rockers for lift over .600. At our smaller durations we can run higher lift.. As duration increases, P to V clearance issues become more of an issue.
