  • a lil bit of smokin

my bird has 56k miles on it. when i hit the gas a lil bit of smoke comes out but not a whole lot. it does it like once or twice then thats it. i use mobil 1 but i was wonderin if royal purple would work better? i thought the m1 would be more than good enough. could this be the piston rings that are messed up. i cant afford any thing like this or risk a new engine when i go to the track. any advice would help.
bad news- the 96 bird is gone<br />good news- a 95 trans am replaced it:lt4 cam and heads, msd, hooker headers,3inch flowmaster, cold air induction, and some laughin gas!

Is the smoke blue or black? Blue is oil and black is fuel. If it is blue, you may be blowing a little oil past the piston rings. Does it only do it for a few minutes when you start the car when it is cold? If so, it possibly could be oil leaking through your valve seats and sitting in the cylinder until you go out and start the car and then it burns it. I would start by doing a compression check on all cylinders first. Get a Haynes manual and follow the instructions for a compression test. It will tell you what may be wrong based on cylinder compression.
