  • September issue of GMHTP 3.8 Throttle body/ MAF and underdrive pulley upgrades

If some of you were lucky enough to pick up a newstand issue of Popular Hotrodding Magazine (October I believe), you recieved a free issue of GMHTP. A break through was found in this magazine, not world bounding breakthrough mind you but one that is enough to keep us moving in the right direction and let us know that hey, there is someone out there looking out for us.

It just so happens that here in the Southern Cali, the mecca of rice rockets, boring European style and dull luxury, and the probably fakest place on earth, that some minor modifacations for our hardly known, if known at all, 3.8's were developed. All I have to say is holly bageezas.
I can't seem to find a place that's quick and easy to post pics, I guess I'm not computer savvy yet, maybe someone could help me out and I'll post the whole article with pictures of the throttle body and also the dyno chart. I'll go ahead and give you guys the comparison though. Check out the torque at 2000 RPM, that's what made me open my eyes like a kid on christmas morning. The car is a 96 with SLP cold air induction, headers, and custom exhaust.

You have a MAF calibration device at home?

How are you going to fit one on a 95 or a 96?

I drill the hole bigger and remove the post.. lots of custom work.. Not easy at all and I don't recomend the average joe try it.. It's not a simple bolt on mod. You have to be very careful with the MAF area to avoid vacuum leaks.

Sorry, I meant something else. 97+ have 2 screws holding it, and 95&96 have 3 screws holding it. Are you going to use JB weld or some tape to hold it in place since the screw holes won't line up?

Magnus, I'm very interested in replacing the MAF, I plan on porting my TB over the winter when I do some intake and head work. All you need to do is replace it with a 99+? Why would that make a difference?

Is there an advantage to doing this to a 99+ F-Body?

"RAT will no longer be selling directly to the public. The only available performance component is the Ultra Flow throttle body/MAF. We will be selling out the remaining stock of exhaust systems ($349) as well as a few prototype systems. Are you looking for the ultimate in handling, try our protptype coil-over system for the GTP. The RAT exclusive features adjustable ride height, adjustable Konit struts and even camber/castor plates. Be the only one on your block (or in the world to have such a system. We have a few Grand Am FloSport air intakle systems still available from the last production run (just $129)."

We discussed this a while ago. The Oct issue has been out since the end of August. I've had the whole article online for a while.

                              Page 1: http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/ma5ornelas/article1.jpg
                              Page 2: http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/ma5ornelas/article2.jpg
                              Page 3: http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/ma5ornelas/article3.jpg

For some reason right after the article came out they stopped selling. I emailed them twice with no response.

Hope you guys don't take this as a flame, I'm just updating you guys.
