well.....didn't have a choice.....last Saturday heard a knock.....I felt that sick feeling in my stomache but, I was hoping for the best.Took it by a friends house who is a mechanic at the Chevy dealership. Sure enough he said it sounded like a Rod bearing. Took it to the dealership told them I wanted him to work on it. After it was all tore down & apart there was damage. Alot of metal shavings in the oil pan. He told me we could replace all those bearing and what was damaged....
but with all that metal floating around I could have problems with other parts later... said if I could it would be best to replace it for a little more...took his advice told them to order it.
just don't get 85,000 miles and this.
I got a van that has 217,000 on it still going strong....oh well guess i was spoiled with that huh!!!

$300 + shipping will get you a perfectly good used L36.

What kind of oil were you running, did you own it since it was new? I wonder why it failed so early.

i'm in the same situation as you. i have a broken car and i'm still paying for that s****t. would be better to get a low miles 3.8 from ebay or rebuild the current one. mine has 110,000 miles on it.

I made it to 130,000.

My latest diagnosis is still critical condition. Might have snapped the timing chain, so more than likely bent a few valves along with it.

That far into the engine, might as well get a cam.

Anyone know if you can machine a small block chevy gear drive to fit on a 231???

Guys what is the deal with this motor? Is it a good motor? Sounds like yall have had some same problems. As far as dogging the car... never have honest.
I mean I have only owned it 3mon. Haven't done any performance mods....just exterior mods....I was thinking last night i wonder if that new moter will look just like the 3800 II that was in it?

Its in the top 10 best motors ever built.

You are just hearing about some isolated cases. Being that this is a V6 form you will hear it more frequently.
