  • car out of tune?

    I have a 97 Camaro 3.8 My mods are SLP CAI and a Flowmaster catback. When I first put on the SLP, I noticed the power increase. However, I also noticed my car idling a bit rougher. I have been thinking that maybe the car is getting too much air and not enough fuel and spark. I also run 91 octane. Is it possible I'm getting too much air and running too high of an octane to produce the best possible combustion with my setup? I was thinking of maybe going down to 89 octane and see if that helps at all. Also was thinking of changing out the stock wires (90k miles) for some Taylor 8 mm.

    yah you might wanna changed the plugs wires lol 90k is a long time to go without swapping them. I would assume thats where the rough idle is coming from.

      The plugs only have about 5-10k miles on them. I'm almost positive the wires are stock and I ahve had 1 or 2 replaced as I was getting a misfire and changing the wire got rid of it. I am not throwing any codes though, so I figured if I had a bad wire I would get the SES light.

        91 Octane is not necassary at all for a V6....Run 87 or if your really worried 89...

          What octane you run really has nothing to do with how many cylinders you have. It has to do with how high your compression ratio is or if you have boost or not. In my Chiltons manual, it says if a car has a 9.0:1 c.r. or higher, you should run premium fuel. the 3.8 is 9.4:1
