i'm thinking about getting a new cam and was wondering what else would i have to get with it? Also how much did you pay for installation? Should i expect to drop over a grand on this?

wont cost a grand if you do it yourself
it will cost about 500 bucks if you want more valvetrain upgrades that will raise the cost fast.
You can get a mild cam and use your stock valve train and it should cost about 500 if you do it yourself.
Talk to matt@TSP he will take care of you.

A grand gets to be pretty easy to spend if you do everything. Some can be avoided, some should not. The must do's include: new valve springs, hardened pushrods, and various gaskets/bolts.
Professional install will cost you anywhere from $350-$700. if you are somewhat inclined at this type of thing, you could do it yourself over a weekend fairly easily. Shoot me an e-mail if you have any specific questions or need help finding any of this.www.fullthrottlev6.com THE SOURCE!

I looked up some cams on www.zzperformance.com and it says the GT cam and the VS cam are made for stock everything and still produce decent gains. They also said it keeps your car completely "street-able" and dont run the risk of hurting the engine like some other cams apparently may do. These cams sound great, anyone have one or hear anything of them?\'02 W68 Pewter Metallic Firebird-RKSport Headers, Catco 3\" cat, SLP Loudmouth, Fast Toys ram air, K&N, !Air Silencer, shaved airbox lid, SLP fan switch, BMR strut tower brace

I would just replace the cam, pushrods, springs, locks, retainers, go to some nice rockers, and then the necessary gaskets for a cam change. Intake, and valve cover. I am going to do a cam soon, and I am going to replace the headgaskets while I am there, hopefully bump up compression a little. Then the headers will go on at the same time. :DJordan
15.09@90.7
1995 Camaro 3.4 M5

i spent 350 on my cam, 400 for the new hi lift valve springs, 500 on titanium retainers, 160 on the gasket set and it took me about 3 days to do. so overall, about $1410.96 3.8 red camaro.
headers,cam,valve springs,retainers,auburn lsd,3.73 gears,SLP cold air,accel coils,24lb injectors,8mm plug wires,air temp module,LT1 diveshaft,removed a/c,edelbrock torque arm,spohn LCA\'s and PHR

Timmy, where did you get that over priced stuff?
$hit, I got new Ti retainers from ebay for $41 S&H and all. New from summitracing there about $150. I don't think I have ever seen a 1.25'' valve spring that cost more than $125.
I think so far I have $140 so far (retainers, locks, springs, valve seals) in the heads and there good for .550'' lift.
I have another $70 worth of head machining bits, just a valve guide cutter. But I still need p-rods and gaskets.
Good thing you didn't get any valve locks.

i ordered it all from comp cams. they are really good springs. i broke two valve spring compresors before i got the new springs on. the springs and retainers are for full racing applications.96 3.8 red camaro.
headers,cam,valve springs,retainers,auburn lsd,3.73 gears,SLP cold air,accel coils,24lb injectors,8mm plug wires,air temp module,LT1 diveshaft,removed a/c,edelbrock torque arm,spohn LCA\'s and PHR
