• What tool to use?

I'm installing a walbro 255 fuel pump and i want to go the trap door route. I know this has been posted in another thread but the only reponse was to use an angle grinder, which i dont have.

Would it be alright to use a jigsaw? Or is there something else i should be using. And how deep should i set the blade?

NO! do NOT use a jigsaw! That is not a good idea. If you can't get an angle grinder (which IMO is also dangerous), You should drop it the proper way. either way you do it, it's hard. A body saw (air snip) would be the safest way, but....

Scissors? lol yeah this definitely isn't gunna work... maybe i'll just take it to a shop. Unless somebody wants to let me borrow their angle grinder or body saw (air snip).

I dropped the tank twice to install a fuel pump and it's not that hard to do. I did it by myself the 2nd time and took a few hours.

use a dremmel or a cut off tool. when i install my pump i plan to drain the fuel and then use my cut off tool to cut the panel very carefully.

i used tin snips, worked fine. Got the new fuel pump, car still wont run though. I can hear it prime though, sounds nice . I replaced the fuel filter and pcv valve while i was at it.

I started the car and black crap flew out of the exhaust pipes. Any idea what it was or why it happened?

I turned it off, and then turned it back on, and it sounded like my car was a beastily v8, but whenever i gave it gas it almost stalled. Eventually it stalled out, and now it wont start back up.

Anybody know whats goin on?

honestly when i put my punp in it ran pretty dam rich while the pcm got used to it for a few mins.. i jsut let it idle.. then i shut it down.. turned it back on and everything seemed pretty much in order..

what kind of mods do you have???

BTW i did the trap door method.. IMHO.. dont try it unless you have
1) huge gonads an no sence
2) a rontary tool with an adjustable guard

we adjusted the guard so it was a little sorter then the metals thickness..
then came back over it and pryed it out..

it left some nasty edges on the steel.. but we sanded them down and it was ok..

then we took a new sheet of steel alot of liquid gasket stuff and quicky tacked it in plack in about 8-10 spots where there were no lines neerby.. screws are too risky.. because you pretty much need to predrill the holes and well.. one slip up with that drill and you just bought a new gas tank..

All the mods I have are in my signature. I'd let it idle rough if i could get it to start.

The trap door method was a peice of cake if you ask me. I just used tin snips, and 1/4 in screws to put the metal shield on. Nothing i was in danger.

Why did you do a pump with no mods?

because my pump died, and the walbro was like 300 bucks cheaper than GM's.
