  • Looking into Supersix, Need Serious Advice

Well, I'll be getting some money soon and I'm looking at the different pieces of the Supersix package. I'm wondering, if I were to buy the ported upper and lower intake manifolds, would I notice any difference without changing the cam and heads? Or would it be better to have a cam ground for my car now, the only thing being that I only have intake, exhaust, ported throttle body, and no way to tune it. Need some advice, have money, but not enough for everything.

If you get the manifold done you need to get the heads matched. You probably won't see much of a gain without the cam though. My advice would be to get the heads and manifold done by Super Six and get a cam ground from a new core, that way you can get a better cam. You can get the cam from Comp Cams, although I think they're on back order or something. If you've got a grand to do the heads and manifold save another what, 300 for the cam.

Know this though, without computer programming you're not going to be feeling the full effects of the package, if even half of the effects of the package. I don't know what you have done to your car but headers would probably be a smart investment if not for safety but for performance purposes. With the cam and heads the exhaust gases need to be expelled.

A few things I want to know, what do you have done to your car? What kind of tires are you running at the track. Do you have an auto or a stick, gears, differential? If you have an auto, how do you race? Meaning, stall, shifting, etc...
Your times are pretty good, well, more than pretty good.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I've got these mods:

      SLP CAI
      Removed Cat
      Flowmaster Muffler
      Home Ported Throttle Body
Removed MAF Screen (No problems from this)
Street Tires w/Stock Rims at Track
      A4 Tranny
      3.08 Gears w/Open Differential

Was wondering if I were to buy the MAFT+ and Autotap, could I do the programming myself?

Oh, forgot two questions, I leave it in D for racing and do not rev it up at all, just punch it off the line. I have 3.08's so it doesn't burn or chirp at all, but I have very good reaction time.

id go the 3.42 LSD route first, and mabye even a 'verter- those 3 mods will give you mabye up to .8 a second, and heads cam would really benefit from those and the first mods i mentioned would give you more gain (not power wise, but track wise) for less money

I can't believe you pulled a 9.7 with the state that your car is in. That's very good. As far as tires go what brand and size are they? Your car must be pretty loud with the Flow and no cat. If you put headers before you do the heads and cam your going to probably lose a lot of back pressure. The Flowmaster flows real well and combined with no cat and headers equals no backpressure for our stock(motor wise) 3.8's. If you put headers I'd put a high flow cat like Car Sound. If you want the sound get a cut out before the cat, I recommend the electric one.

As far as what else you'll need, a fuel pump, the computer tuning of course, at least a posi for track puposes, it's only 99 bucks. Another big mod that I strongly recommend is the 1LE driveshaft. When you do gears I'd put in 3.73's. You don't want to get the torque converter just yet because you want to get your car dynoed after everything is done to it and see where your car is making the power and go from there. One thing you'll have to remember is that in automotive, is that you have to have forethought and plan everything out ahead of time. I'm still learning myself and I have a lot to learn.

So, if I were you this is what I would do. First I would take care of the no cat and no header situation and also get the posi because that's going to be about a grand. The next thing I would do is get the 1 piece driveshaft. Now you're ready for the heads and intake. After heads and intake save for the cam, computer tuning, cooler thermostat, and fuel pump. Somed wires would be good anywhere in between there since they're not that expensive. I almost forgot, a great new mod that just came out is the ported, polished, and recalibrated throttle body/ MAF from www.ramairtechnology.com I saw the dyno on it and it gives about 40 ft. bls. of torque at 2000 RPM's. Now you should get the 3.73's and have the car dynoed, assuming everything is running properly, and talk to the torque converter guys.

I know this seems like a lot of money and it is. To be honest, I'm still wondering if I'm going to do this or not becuase I'm planning on it too. One thing that I always think about and am strongly reminded of by my stepfather and my friend who owns a shop is that the 6 will never be an 8 no matter what I do to it. But even now when I race it or just roll around people think I have an 8 and when I say I have a 6 it's a great feeling to see the face they make.

            GOOD LUCK, Michael

see michael.... plant those tires and your times are going to plummet!

to sum up what these guys are saying and throw in my 2 cents, do a little more prepping for the SSM package. headers, LSD/3.42's, etc. you can go the SSM route now if you would like (there's nothing wrong with doing that) but as already mentioned, you aren't going to get the full bennifits w/o proper tuning and a way to get the new-found power to the ground.

honestly, i think you'll feel more gains for the money by putting more power that you've already got to the ground and driving becomes much more fun that way! :D

Scott...That's the claim in the article...Dojo uploaded it, and here's the page with the dyno results.

Since that article came out, several people on this board have tried to get in contact with RAT, but none of them have been able to...So if it's for real, it looks as though we're SOL!!!

Thrs no way it gives you anywhere near 40 ft lbs just from the ported tb, If it did then jughead would have gotten more than a .1-.2 reduction in et especially with that much tq.

Well, this company recalibrates the MAF, remember tuning is very important for our cars. I don't know if Jughead had his tuned but this is off a dyno and it was from GMHTP so I'm sure it's real. As far as contacting them, I live about 35 minutes from them and I'm going to go to see what's up next week.

Slowbraeater - The claimed 40ft-lb torque is at 2000 rpm. At peak torque, 4000 rpm, the increase was more like 13 ft-lb.

ItalianStalion - That would be great if you could stop by RAT and see what's going on. I've e-mailed them with no response, and I know that several other board members have tried to get in touch with them also without any luck. :(
