• If I retard the timing at like 5000rpm..

Will it help my car RPM better?

I think I read how Variable Valve Timing usually retards the timing in the higher RPMs to help the motor rpm better or something... I think I can do it with my DIS-4.. but will it help?

Just wanted to play around a little

Valve timing is a little different than ignition timing. ;)

I heard its actually beneficially, more power, to advance your ignition timing a lil(up to 30 degrees) so that the spark alredy fires as the pistons is coming up, instead of it waiting for it to come up to TDC(top dead center)but go to far and you get predetination and pings and knocks

and from what ive heard variable valve timing just keeps half the valves and injectors closed to restrict air flow and improve gas milage until you gun it and reach higher rpms- my coworker sez vtech is kind of the same principle but with the throttle body and dual butterflies or something.

but who wants to wait for power unless its a turbo!?

yeah, you advance that timing too far and youre going to get some wonderful detonation and bust a piston.

I was just trying to see if it would help my car a little better in that RPM range... car falls on its face at about 4800-5000 rpm. Figured I'd toy around and see what it did :D
It didn't do anything either heh. Car felt the same... oh wells.
