ok , i have heard that it is possible and safe to bore a 3.4L .060" to 3.5L ( http://www.60degreev6.com/members/gpxss/ under the rebuild section) and i was trying to find pistons to fit it. but i cant find any. has anyone done this and where did you get your internals.
also can anyone suggest a forged rod and even a crank.
ok. i dont reccomend this. and im sure tiago will back me on this one --
here is the reason why. the 3.4L (3350cc - 204ci) OHV engine, can safely be bored to a MAXIMUM of .060" over. That's it. if you go .060 over -- you are screwed if you have to rebuild it.
why do i say this?
because if you have to rebore the cylinders, you cant. all of the material has been scraped out of them. even then, the estimations on GPXSS's site, are estimations based on a book i believe.
Nick Norris @ NRT/NTM when he originally talked to James Montigny, the guinea pig for the FIRST EVER 3.4L buildup by them, told James that he(Nick) didn't think it would be a good idea to go .060 over. Because of this they only went like .040 over. just enough to make it 3.5L. BARELY.
anyway. going that much wont give you that much more hp. ive done runs in desktop dyno. going .060" over only produces gains of like 5-8 hp and like 2-4tq. (twirls finger)
5-8hp/2-4tq is HARDLY worth the money it'll take you to bore the engine block and have it prepped or anything like that. find HP elsewhere.
just my .02.
anyway - on the matter of pistons, refer to the post about forged pistons.
thank you very much for the input , i didnt know that, thoes # suck, i knew that it wouldnt do much , but i thought it would make more than that. looks like im going back to the drawing board...........
