• Considering 3.4 Intake/Head Porting---Found Used Ebay Intake: Up/Low

I was just cruising around EBay and I found 3.4 upper intake manifold for $20 and a lower intake for $10. Since I have been debating doing some cylinder head work, intake porting and a cam, I thought it would be nice to have these spare parts to use for the work. That way my car will still drive and if they F up no biggie.

I have been considering for a long time wether to ditch my 3.4 and buy a LT1/LS1 car, do the PITA swap  , or completely abandon the F-Body all together. I have read all the threads about the people who have the old NRT heads and intake, the custom jobs and the Super Sixx package. Despite all this I am having serious doubts about the 3.4's potential :( . All of the money spent with cams, head work, intake porting and such does not seem to yield to much power increase for all that effort. With a nitrous kit or Turbo after all that work, I know it would prove useful. But it seems to me that the 3.4 does not respond well to internal work and is already and over whored 2.8/3.1 from old days. Not trying to start flames. But honestly, how much potential does the 3.4 posess? Besides Tiago and a few others, they see like a chiuaua trying to pull a heavy bob sled.
I am just trying to see the justification in spending alot of time and money into a engine that will never really be all that mighty. I want a strong engine with out nitrous or turbo adders. Sorry this turned into a rant .
I am just getting tired of my car. It has 118,000 miles and is tired and rough. The suspension squeaks, the car stumbles. im just sick of it and need a change.

yo I have upper and lower intakes that i would sell you for 30 bucks and all you would have to do is pick them up I am in Palm Harbor which is just north of Dunedin and south of Tarpon Springs. I also have heads tha i would sell you for 20 bucks if you wanted. So for 50 bucks you would have upper and lower intakes and heads ready to port or play with. Its up to you. My 3.4 barely has any work and it is quick. I have a bunch of parts for it so I can only imagine how much faster it will be. I am also selling my aluminum head swap stuff for 300 bucks its the upper lower the heads complete and throttle body. Aluminum heads yeild high gains but you have to switch out the pistons and I am trying to purchase a house right now so I cannot spend any more money on the car. I will be putting in a cam roller rockers full valvetrain headers 24lb injectors and an LT1 throttle body. Let me know if you want any of that stuff I am really close to you and we could meet up somewhere or you could come pick all what you want up. Thanks,
Dakota

P.S. it is important to pick the right mods with the 3.4 some do almost nothing while others yeild 3 tenths in the eighth... Gears are a big one and with a 5 spd i would go 4.10 and i would also get that clutch back in there so you have something nice. Another cheap mod is porting and polishing your own TB which may not give great gains but it is free. Tuning... well we dont have the best tuning for these cars but I had a good gain from my tuning at fastchips... I also have a stall convertor which is awesome... but you have a 5spd so thats cool too. Anyways if you like the car I can help you make it faster for cheap... Money and time are things that help. You can talk to me on AIM if you want about any of the stuff or just more info. wdakotaw is my SN

What years do you have? How much horsepower are you running?

I a have been wondering just how much I can get out of mine too. A guy here at work tells me that one of his buddies who used to help GM develop the 3.4 got like 400 hp out of one just by boring a little and changing internals. Then got like 600 with turbos. He would race it up Pike's peak and stuff.

Personnally I think it is BS cuz I am only running 180 hp max on an ACCEL Kool Blue filter, resistor, and a throttle body bypass.

Where are your parts from? I'm not sure what you mean. Are they from your Camaro or are they spares? I'd be real interested in them if I can find a local machine shop that would port them. I just really depend on my car for daily transportation and cannot afford to have it out of commission while I had those intakes/heads ported.

My car is a 95 btw. I'd love to port the heads and be able to have a spare set like that to slowly buy rocker arms, springs, guides, and valves for and install them properly. Then after all that I would like a new Cam ;) , and then maybe a dose of laughing gas . I want to do a posi rear and some 3.73 gears soon too.

The way I see it, my 3.4 already has high miles and will need replacing soon anyway. So I have nothing to lose if I try to push it a little. Even if it does blow, then I can do what I have always wanted: drop a LT1/LS1 in there

I dont know how much hp i am running but im sure its not much. Its more than stock thats for sure. What sucks is on a strong stock motor you might have 140 rwhp... that blows in my opinion but with a nice built NA motor you will be around 186rwhp.. i am going for 200rwhp we shall see if I make it. Many things can effect speed though. In track times how light your car is how well it gets traction... how much torque you are making how well you launch... Many factors come into play..... as for my parts they are spares I have 2 engines one i bought the whole thing just for the block so i have spare parts for a 3.4. I have a 95 camaro as well and it has a 3.4. All the parts would be great for someone to clean up and port and polish. I could turn you on to some local machine shops too... around here they are kinda pricey but not too bad. For the laughing gas i wouldnt go much above a 50 shot for high usage unless i had forged pistons. Getting LSD is a must but trust me I have 3.73 gears and they are nice but if i could do it again i would go 4.10 for sure especially if i had a 5spd. Hit me up on aim and I can help you out. I have those parts sitting around too and it would be great to not have to ship them. I think I am installing my cam in the next week or so but i may pull the motor and put in some new cam bearings just so i have no problems. Anyways for 2 heads complete with upper and lower intakes and throttle body its hard to go wrong for 50 bucks. Let me know... Also if you want me to tell you the names of some good local shops i can just drop me a line. Talk to you later,

I'll give you a buzz soon. I wasn't really planning any mods lately but when I found those parts on Ebay so cheap I started to brainstorm. I still dream and keep up with the board so I know what others have tried. I'm assuming you would have kept those part laying around anyway so please be patient with me. I'll consider buying them and maybe next paycheck I can splurge a little. For $50 its hard to beat the temptation.

I have a set of heads and the intakes available. They are, in fact, dakota's that he had ported and polished at a local shop. I forget the specs, though.

I also have a full set of Comp roller tipped rocker arms that came from him, too.
