I heard about the LS1 destroked to a 302 and I think that would be an awesome motor! Anyone know the specs, I am thinking about building one up. Where did they get a crank to destroke it? I prety much inherited a 69 RS Z-28 with the 302 and I would like to have a newer camaro with a 302 also, just for fun. Then I could compare old school high performance with new tech first hand. ANyone have details on this motor, let me know.

Thats a pretty damn nice inheritance. A '69 or '68 Z28 is my favorite car.
But anyway, I saw the LS1 302 at the SLP customer appreciation day and it was incredible. I was given the impression that GM performance parts can sell you all the components you need but you have to assemble the motor yourself.
It would cost but it would be pretty damn sweet.
I'd check out some of the LS1 message boards.

As far as a crank goes, does it use a production piece or a performance part?? They talk about heads, pistons, rods, block, but I didn't see anything about the crank?

Did some searching on the truck parts. I had the bore/stroke relationships backwards. The 4.8L and 5.3L share the same bore. 4.8L has a shorter stroke. 5.3L and 5.7L share the same stroke, with the 5.7L having a larger bore.
5.7L - 3.900bore x 3.62stroke
5.3L - 3.780bore x 3.62stroke
4.8L - 3.780bore x 3.26stroke
Using a 5.7L block with a 4.8L crank is around 311ci, or 5.1L. I am looking for some more info on the 6.0L but the vortec site is down currently.

Why destroke the LS1? Found one site that said they used a 3.84bore x 3.286stroke, which is the 4.8L crank. That winds up at just over 302ci. Don't know where the block came from, might be able to massage a 4.8L/5.3L block that large. That would be what, about .060 over? I know there isn't a ton of room on those LS1 blocks to work with, but I think that setup sounds doable.
Go over to LS1tech.com and search for 302 in the internal engine forum. There are a couple of posts concerning this.

The 302 (the original 302) makes gobs of hp, not as much torque (but still respectable), and winds up quicker.

Its all original, my dad bought from the original owner many years ago. The guy was going to race it. It has 10.5:1 pistons, AFR heads all the goodies. Race suspension, roll cage with original interior. RS (Hidden headlights) and z-28 (302) packages. The guy he bought it from had it all apart to paint and tub, but he got called into the service and had to sell it in peices. Oh, and he never got to tub it, so its original and not chopped. He's had it since I was little, and we had plans of restoring it (he's a mechanic) but we needed a good garage. Well he's building one now! Can't wait. But nobody know where the LS1 destroke crank came from eh? I know westech auto built it, but they don't have much info. Keep me posted if you learn anything.1997 Chevrolet Camaro v6 - 13.8@104MPH

Oh yeah, check on the gm powertrain, they have a new 5.0 liter out.....that's your best bet. The only thing is, Chevy has completely redone all the bores and strokes. The original 302 had the bore of a 350 and the crank (stroke) of a 283. The new ones are all out of wack, even the LS1 has a smaller bore and a longer stroke, it's a totally different beast from the original 350s.
