  • MAGNUS...Valve Lash

Someone double check me please. The only number I have found was .025" That sound correct for the valve lash (on the L36).

Putting the motor back together today and tomorrow should finally have it running late Sunday night.

    AIM me if you can.

    Thanks.

EDIT: Hey Keith, can you send my your number to call you (or reply here) Dom is talking to Hawgs with me and says lash is .008 on intake and .012 on exhaust. That sound right?
If so thanks a million Dom.

They self adjust themselves to the right lash, but hawgs and Dom were right, it is pretty close to the specs they gave you.

Torque them down to the proper torque settings and they will self adjust.

Valve lash should be zero on a hydraulic lifter. You want to check lifter preload. If your geometry is correct though, so will your lifter preload.

thanks guys. Will try to get it finished today but its doubtful. I somehow lost quite a few bolts from the early stages of pulling the motor apart.

I'm usually a big stickler for organization, labeling etc. So I am totally lost as to how or why these bolts are missing. Anyway, I was using Brandons engine as a guide, and in turning one of his bolts by hand, the heat from the engine blistered my finger pretty good.

I'm calling Mark at HP to see if he has any V6's I can pull bolts off of.

But except for the lash which I didn't have an answer for early enough yesterday, I got everything finished that I set out to do.

I installed the exhaust manifolds, the lower intake, and upper intake (plenum) inside of about a few hours.

Nice to finally get something accomplished with all the repair work I've been up to lately. So my original goal of having it started up Today I don't think will happen. But if I take it easy, I should be able to spend an hour or so each day this week to try to start it over next weekend.

I'm leaving the Y-pipe off on purpose, so all the neighbors will know it's running again :D

If you have lash your pushrods are WAY too short.

Uh, since the valves are self-adjusting, do I merely tighten them down as they are - and that be good enough, or do I still need to tighten them down each at Top Dead Center?
