  • LS6 Ambitions...but will it fit?

I've been contemplating an engine swap for after I completely pay off the car and the warranty is up, but I was wondering if the Z06 5.7L LS6 would fit into an fbody without too much modification. I think the main things would be the intake and exhaust, but the engine itself should be almost exactly the same as the LS1, as far as fitting goes right? I'd probably have to get the T56 out of the same car too because I think they have slightly different specs than the T56 for the LS1s if I'm not mistaken. Anybody ever heard of somebody doing this kind of swap? If so I'd appreciate any and all info you can provide.

Im pretty sure that if an ls1 can do it then an V6 fbody can.

Transmission from the Vette won't fit on the F-Body I don't think. Correct me if I'm wrong.

LS1/LS6 are identical in terms of bolting up to anything. Installing an LS6 is pretty pointless over an LS1 though, as it doesn't have much of anything on it. I would simply put a good beefy cam in an LS1, install that, and call it a day.

Much as I hate to disagree with Dominic, there is a big difference between the LS1 and the LS6. The LS1 puts out 350hp and 375lb-ft and the LS6 is 405hp and 400lb-ft (these are Corvette specifications). Some of the gains are due to exhaust system changes, but most are due to internal engine changes and an improved intake manifold (which will bolt up to an LS1 by the way). The block for an LS6 is stronger and more efficient, cam, pistons, valves, and heads are different as well.

Here is a link that discusses the differences:

                  highly detuned my left...oh well...

                  GMHTP took a 99 T/A and a 99 Vette and dyno'd both.

due to the extra drivetrain loss involved in the corvette's rear transaxle setup, the TA dyno'd 4 or 5 more ponies.

in fact, to keep the power down in late 2000's, and all 2001+'s, when they added the LS6 intake, they put a 6L truck cam in.

LS6 heads are different than LS1.. different casting.. LS6 also has mild cam.

Block is slightly different but nothing important at all.. its practically the same motor minus the previously mentioned things.

As mentioned above, the Vette tranny WILL NOT fit in the F-Body. You can use a T56 from any 1999-2003 F-Body and it will bolt right in. Otherwise, putting the LS6 in will work just like installing a LS1.

Save some money and just get the LS1! Throw in a big cam, LS6 intake manifold, and headers, and you're set better off than any stock LS6. It's cheaper to do it yourself!
