  • 3.8 rebuild

Let's say I can do an OEM rebuild. Are there any weak points I should address with aftermarket parts? Definitely staying NA for now, but if I do decide to spray it will be around a 100shot. Nothing a stock engine can't handle. I don't want to spend the money on forged pistons. And that's in a far away future anyway.

I am going to get heads/cam when I do the rebuild. Might as well. Which means I need that bottom end to spin to 6500 at a minimum. I'd like it to spin to 7000. So what parts will I need for that to happen? Will the L32 rods let me spin higher safer? Let me know what y'all think.

I would think that a fresh/ reground crank, good clevite bearings, L32 rods, hardened pushrods and LS1 springs should take care of you for all you plan on doing.

I got the top end squared away. Just wondering about the bottom end. So clevite bearings and L32 rods and I should be set for 7K?

Comp OE-R lifters..918 springs..Titanium retainers and roller rockers.. along with what you are doing to the bottom end should be good for about 7000 rpm..

Forget roller rockers... spending that much money to get a roller tipped rocker is retarded. We have nice rockers from the factory.
Anyways, you said you had the top end squared away.
If you use L32 rods, you'll need L67 or L32 pistons. Maybe a machine shop could pull something off, but I dunno.

Roller rockers would increase his RPM potential far beyond what the stock rockers will allow.

I found a block from a 2000 GTP, but it's just a bare block. Can I put a used crank and pistons from another used V6? I know they are all the same, but some parts need to be broken in together. Just want to make sure. Everything else will go in new. How much is a new crank and pistons anyway?
