Magnus, I know that your car isn't normally that rough at idle, but heres probably the important question: Do you think your knock problem was caused by the cam? Man this is turning into a good thread!

As stated above .520ish lift untill you have to mill the pedastales. Magnus mentioned he never had knock before the cam swap.

Yeah, but does he think the cam is just too aggressive or was it a valvetrain problem etc?

Basically what setup would be best for me. I can do bolt ons, I am willing to buy springs/pushrods etc. But I don't want to have to do any custom milling or anything, and I drive my car daily.

I thought Ironman's was a good setup, but I don't want to kick myself later for not getting "enough" cam. I think magnus' cam might be a little much work and the potential for that dreaded knock problem is there. So Magnus, how far should I "Back Off" your specs to get a decent daily driver, not knocking cam.
PGriffith Thanks for the help as well. It's good too see that you don't want anyone to get a weenie cam. Which is very important to me also.

I am leaning more and more towards the 206/212 for you and also myself. But I think we are still learning what works. Think about it for some time and start searching advanced tech. You have a while to decide because as far as I know Compcams is still out of cores.

I think you might be ok with .520... thats like the upper limit though.

I highly doubt the knock problem is due to the cam.. Not really sure what is causing it.. it doesn't matter because this motor will be blown up with nitrous VERY soon... and thanks for the compliments btw.

There are other guys running cams like mine and bigger without knock problems.. my is very specific..

If you are worried about the lift you can pick lobes from the bottom with .504 valve lift.. I think 212/212 112LS is very good for a daily driver..

So far I've picked up .4 and 4mph... and there is more in it too... 14.0 NA was pushing it to the EXTREME!!

So you think your cam should do just fine in my car? How well will it work without the P&P heads? I am going to do just a cam and see the gains, just so everyone here knows if the P&P is necissary. And if it sucks, I will P&P.

I am not strictly going for NA times, I will use nitrous, so should I favor exhaust a little???

Oh yeah, and do you have the CC 918 Springs? Why do your suck?
Thanks again!

PGriffith - 206/212, isn't the 206 a little low? I Mean so far everyone has at least a 210/212.

[EDIT] - If you blow your motor, put in some 13.0:1 pistons from that monte carlo (293 HP) and go for 12s NA!!

He has thrasher springs, I think?

I have been told to favor exhaust on nitrous and give it more lobe seperation. I think you should try 212/218 113, nobody has tried these durations yet as far as I know. And I am curious how this cam would do.

Is the 118 too large???
How about magnus' cam exactly, except maybe a 112/114? The 114 has been done, and is proven.
Thats another, I will experiment, but I don't want to be S.O.L. cause I don't have that much money.

SO maybe
212 214 .325 .325 113 108 1.6:1 .520 .520
Any opinions???

I don't think there is a 214 with that valve lift. If your going to spray nitrous just a few times for #'s, run open exhaust.. I think symmetrical will be much better for every day and NA #'s..

My cam is near the borderline for daily driver.. any higher might be more of a hassel. My car does shake/jerk somtimes but nothing that bad.

Whats that link to the Compcam's lobe list? Magnus you posted it a while back I keep losing it. I think AZ needs to look at it so he knows what you are talking about when you tell him the 214 duration is not available.

No I saw it a while back, I just forgot to check it first. DOh! Alright it sounds good then. I think the split lobe will make it a little rough anyways. Magnus - are you planning on making a sound clip with exhaust on and no vacuum leak??
