  • Converted from bottom to front breather

    No more air dam underneath.

    And lots of air coming through the front!!!

    Feeds the radiator and the air lid, it retains the foam support for the fascia, and it eliminates most of the weight at the same time.

              The bottom will still be closed off (when I'm finished). I'll be doing that just to make sure the incoming air doesn't dive right back out through the bottom.

              I supposed they could pull the grill cover off and reach through there.

              If somebody wants it bad enough, they'll figure something out no matter what I do...

                Looks good, John! [img]graemlins/banana.gif[/img] I'm anxious to hear the results of this mod.

                Are you concerned at all about the structural integrity of the front bumper (the beam) in a frontal collision?? That is the only thing that bothers me about it... :(

                After being in a head on collision with my Firebird, I'm afraid to think where the engine would have ended up without that front bumper. :eek:

                  I have some minor concern about it.

                  I know some people remove it completely. I definitely didn't want to do that.

                  And some people have replaced it with an aluminum tube, but that isn't really any stronger than this approach.

                  In an off center head-on, the impact will line up with a frame rail. In a corner impact, the beam doesn't really factor in. It's just in a dead center head-on with a narrow object (i.e. telephone pole, tree) that the beam will apply. It will cave in more easily and probably won't pull the frame rail ends together, so it won't absorb as much energy.

                  It will be hard to quantify the results of this mod... Because the v6 to v8 swap is being done at the same time. And I upgraded to an SLP radiator with a thicker core. So, more load, more radiator, more air, hopefully everthing will balance out, or even run just a bit cooler. [img]smile.gif[/img]

                    So, you chopped up the stock steel bumper support and the styrafoam thingee in there?

                    Not bad, great pic's.

                    I ditched all those components for weight reduction :D
