  • building custom fuel lines (disconnect tool)

I need to run custom fuel lines for my 3800 conversion and I need to remove the bits of line that was cut off when they pulled the motor at the junkyard. Is this the disconnect tool to uno those fittings at the engine where teh rubber line meets hard line?

    link clik it...

Can I use a brake flaring tool to flare the end of my aluminum tubing to reconnect with this fitting? What type of tool or fitting will I need to connect plain aluminum tube to the rubber lines coming off the fuel rails?

Cool, I had thought it was one of those special tools only available at dealerships.

Anyone know how to join plain aluminum hose to the GM fuel rail? Flare it?

most auto parts places sell the tool.. its basically a plastic ring with a flange on teh one end. it presses into the rubber/plastic connector and lets you slide the connector off the hard line. autozone has them for less than $10. good tool to have.

suggestion...not being a jerk but this is very important topic...

don't monkey with fuel system. use the correct parts and techniques for converting/changing high pressure fuel system.

1: use only fuel injection rated rubber hoses...not normal carbuerator fuel hoses.
2: use only fuel injection rated hose clamps.
3: don't change the 'connection type' on the fuel rail. you can buy female and male 'quick disconect ends' at auto parts stores. fuel feed line is 3/8" and fuel return line is 5/16".

4: you can make or convert rubber fuel injection hose into your fuel system but use the above mentioned type of parts. when you want to connect, say...a female quick disconect end into a section of rubber hose make sure the 'normal end' in barbed (flared) and clamp it with a fuel injection clamp. get the correct size clamp. it should be very tight...not loose at all.

5: there is no reason to modify your fuel rail ends when you can buy quick disconect ends for ten bucks.

for more info make sure and check out the link i posted above. it contains a pic and instructions for using the gm quick disconnect tool.

(there is a different type of tool that is used for things like fuel filter lines)

Thanks man, your page had all the answers I was looking for. Summit sells the quick disconnect adapters for something like $18 which go to a 10mm threaded end (unpopular size). Where can I get the quick connectors seen on your page that go to a barbed or NPT end? An autoparts store?
