  • Forged Internals

When is it time to do this? I know you usually need it for nitrous. But when else?

And which forged internals can be found for our 3.8s? Where?

    Nope.

You never need it. When do you need to get a cam? When do you need to get nitrous? The answer: never.

If you want to rebuild your motor to be able to handle more power, then that's a good way to do it. But it's not something that you just throw on and go faster.

Oh I know I won't go any quicker/faster with forged internals, lol. Just.. would my engine work fine with a turbo, cam, heads, rockers, etc? Or should I go the extra extent and forge the internals. And I don't want to spray.

Your engine will do fine with all that work. You would just be able to handle more boost without risking blowing up. It's up to you if you want to spend the couple grand on a rebuild to handle the extra boost safely.

Alright. Thanks. I'm just new to the game (even though I can tear apart an engine and throw it all back together) and don't know too much in depth. You guys are helping a lot and I really appreciate it.

haha.. Okay. Back when I started out on message boards at C&G in 2001, I used NOSFerrari2006. NOS because it seemed cool as hell (and it was right around when The Fast and The Furious was released), Ferrari because they make some badass vehicles, and 2006 because it's my graduation year.

Well, C&G moved a year or two later, so I shortened it to NOS2006 because the name stuck. And everybody's always called me NOS. So, it's just easy to remember and people have given me a simple nickname.

However, I don't want to spray because I'm afraid I'll do too much. Plus, I don't know the first thing about it, so yeah..

                      Pistons are around/over $500
L32 rods go for $150 at te VERY BEST, usually more. Forged rods would be more.
                      Shot Peening would be more.

A good bearing set is probably around $100, haven't bought one for this motor yet.

A forged crank could cost you thousands because nobody makes one yet.

Labor, you have to remove and dismantle your engine. Labor is not cheap.

                      Engine building isn't cheap either.

I would say anywhere from $1000 for the do it yourselfer who knows their stuff with no forged crank to many thousands for an amatuer to $5000+ for the amateur with a forged crank. Just estimates.

I dont know exactly in grams but my custom forged CP Pistons were quite a bit lighter than the stock hypereutectic's.

all of my forged internals (pistons, rods, rings, pins) cost around a grand..the motor was able to handle up to a 225 shot for the 1st 1/8 and then a 175 the rest of the way (i didnt try any more than that) until one of the head gaskets finaly blew..so you gotta take care of all the gaskets too
