  • 3.4 to 3800 seris3 swap?

Hey,guys, i got a 95 firebird 3.4 for about two weeks ago. It has 171850km on it, engine is kinda weak, lacking power and sometime hard to start when it's hot. I'm wondering if i can swap to 3800 seris3? I saw the the pics in the repair manual, 3.4 and 3.8 looks different under the hood, what kind of mod do i need to do?

BTW, i got a 5speed gear box, how about swap to 6 speed?

I'll leave the tranny swap to those who know for sure, but the mounts are WAY different, not sure if k-mbr is same, and this would probably be the biggest obsticle (unless swapped as part of the swap. The engine & tranny will be cake (well, it was for me)just make sure you have the correct engien harness to go w/it. IIRC, teh only difference betwen the series II & III will be w/teh supercharged versions.

I'm sure others will add input & correct anything I may have misspoken on.

About the tranny swap. My friend put a 5 speed from a GT in his V6 but this will probably apply to fbodies as well, but the gear ratio's are different in the T56 than the T5. It will probably make it slower. I would put the 5 speed on it.

Another thing i just mentioned, the clutch throw out bearing of 3.4 is different from 3.8, is that means i have to replace clutch also?

For T56 swap, i think we also have to consider the gear ratio at rear. T56 need higher gear ratio, maybe?
